Korean anime exhibit kicks off at SM Megamall

-

BELOVED K-animation characters Pororo, The Little Penguin, Pucca and Garu, Hello Jadoo, “Cloud Bread” kittens Hongbi and Hongshi, Canimals, and Tayo the Little Bus delighted kids of all ages during the recent Korean Embassy’s “Korean Character Exhibition: The Delight of Korean Animation World” at the SMMegamall Atrium.

A joint project of the Korean Embassy’s Korean Cultural Center ( KCC) and SM Megamall, the exhibit gave mall- goers a rare opportunity to discover this aspect of Korean culture. Unlike Korean pop ( K- pop), which depends heavily on the fame of its famous members, or Korean dramas ( Kdramas), which require a certain degree of cultural acceptance, K- animation’s appeal is all- embracing, thanks to its entertaining universal stories, as well as adorable characters.

The event showcased toys and creative displays of popular Korean animated characters. Kids also had fun playing traditional Korean games like Tuho, in which participants try to throw arrows into a large jar, and Jegichagi, the Korean version of sipa. They also enjoyed a dance-off of Psy’s phenomenal hit single “Gangnam Style.”

KCC director Oh Choong-suk, KCC general manager Lee Du Kyung, and Korean Copyright Commission director Tae-Won Cha graced the event, and were warmly welcomed by SM executives led by senior vice president for marketing Millie Dizon and Megamall manager Joyce Sy.

The “Korean Character Exhibition: The Delight of Korean Animation World” is one of the enriching cultural events held at the SM Megamall.
