Petron guns for No. 6 vs Cignal today

- By Marc Anthony Reyes

UNBEATEN Petron returns from a lengthy rest to tackle Cignal today in the opening game of a triple bill in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix women’s volleyball presented by Asics at Cuneta Astrodome.

Petron tries to extend its winning streak to six when it tangles at 2 p.m. with Cignal, which is tied for second with idle RC Cola-Air Force at 3-2.

Generika and Foton, inspired by their blistering upset wins last Wednesday, collide in the second women’s division match at 4 p.m.

The Life Savers (2-3) stunned the Cignal HD Spikers, while the Foton Tornadoes (1-5) shocked the Mane ’N Tail Lady Stallions (2-4) both in straight sets in their last outing and try to boost their stock in the Final Four race with another win.

Although boasting a talented pair of imports in Alaina Bergsma and Erica Adachi and a prolific local crew led by MVP contender Dindin Santiago, the Blaze Spikers can’t afford to take it easy against the HD Spikers, who are seeking a huge comeback after their upset loss.

But Cignal has yet to draw the best from reinforcements Lindsay Stalzer and Sarah Am- merman, who have yet to fully blend with their teammates.

In the lone men’s division match, Cignal tries to sweep the eliminations when it takes on PLDT-Air Force at 6 p.m.

Cignal has won all its three outings thus far and leads the men’s division. PLDT-Air Force, meanwhile, is hoping to tab its second win in two games.

In a late men’s game Wednesday,, Cavite stopped Bench-Systema, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 26-24, to post its second win in four outings.

Bench dropped its second straight match and shares last place with Maybank at 0-2.
