‘Millennials’ to drive smartphone penetration in PH upward – Smart
WITH their discerning taste and high purchasing power, people who were born in the early 1980s to early 2000s, or “millennials”, will be a major force in driving smartphone penetration in the Philippines, said wireless services leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart).
Though smartphone penetration remains relatively low in the country—at 15 percent of the population according to the latest study by On Device Research—young consumers who prefer good-looking phones packed with lots of features will definitely push the rate upward in the coming years. This, however, is expected to reach half of the population by next year.
“These consumers are at the forefront of the latest in technology, and they demand not just function but also style from their mobile devices,” Kathryn Carag, Postpaid Marketing head at Smart explained.
The same On Device Research study labeled the mobile market in the country as “young, urban, and affluent,” with 88 percent of the market belonging to the 34 and below age group, often referred to as the “millennial” generation.
“This is the reason why we have included in our device lineup the most premium and trendiest phones today, such as the LG G3, which appeals to the discriminating tastes of Filipino ‘millenials’,” Carag added.
Premium, sophisticated
For users who want a premium-looking device that packs a punch in terms of features, the LG G3 LTE brings an elevated sense of class with its trademark Floating Arc design, coupled with a brushed metal finish that exudes nothing but sophistication from every corner of the device.
Launched in July this year, the LG G3’s LTE version is currently available at Smart Postpaid’s All-In Plan 1800, with a monthly cashout of P199 for 24 months via credit card installments or a one-time payment of P4,776 upon subscription.
With the All-In Plan 1800, subscribers can get the fully consumable and fully customizable postpaid experience so they can mix and match their plan inclusions to suit their needs. For example, a subscriber can opt to get the Always On 995 (all-month surfing for all apps and sites up to 5GB with SPINNR streaming and Opera Max), All-Net Text upgrade (3,500 texts to all networks), and All-Net Talk 250 (80 minutes of all-net calls), and still have P205 of consumable amount left.
Each LG G3 subscription from Smart also comes with a FREE Quick Circle case worth P1,900, which will allow you to instantly view notifications and oth- er nuggets of information from your mobile apps.
The LG G3 runs on the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat and captivates with its trademark classy Floating Arc design, which makes the smartphone very comfortable to hold despite its big 5.5-inch Quad HD display with 538ppi. It is also the first phone to have laser auto focus integrated with its 13-megapixel rear camera, which quickly detects the depth of your subject for faster capturing of photos.
Widest network
The LG G3 can best be enjoyed with Smart’s widest LTE network. As of end-September, Smart has deployed around 1,400 FDD-LTE cell sites in various parts of the country. This brings the combined number of LTE cell sites for both fixed and mobile applications to over 1,800. Each LTE cell site has three “sectors” or base stations, bringing the PLDT Group’s total number of LTE base stations to around 5,500.
