Auto Review Road Safety Olympics set this Saturday
THE POPULAR sports basketball and volleyball will be mixed with road safety activities in the Auto Review Road Safety Olympics on March 21 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Held in cooperation with the Philippine Sports Commission, participants will mix it up in a whole day of activities featuring road safety stakeholders from the government and private sector, including the motoring industry’s Mazda Philippines, Chevrolet Philippines, Hyundai, Bridgestone Tires, and with support from Isuzu Philippines, Mitsubishi Motors and Toyota Motor Philippines.
Aside from the ball games, cheerleading exhibitions and road safety slogan chants will be performed by UAAP/NCAA schools and other groups in line with the theme “Road Safety: Everybody’s Responsibility,” which is also in support of the United Nations-initiated Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.
The advocacy event, held in cooperation with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Philippine Global Road Safety Partnership, Automotive Association Philippines, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Philippine National Police, the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Red Cross, Roadhouse Manila Bay, AGC Flat Glass Philippines, the Department of Public Works and Highways, and Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines, was launched on Jan. 24 at the SM by the Bay, Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Over 300 participants, most of them traffic enforcers from all over Metro Manila, played beach volleyball, engaged in a tug-of-war and amazing race-type road safety trivia challenge, took part in a festive parade that culminated in a pledge by the participants to instill good road habits and courtesy for motorists, pedestrians and other road users.
