Showcase exterior and interior–and a wagon

MAZDA6 UPDATE & SNEAK PEEK

- By Jason K. Ang

THE MAZDA6 is the most technologically advanced car in its class, and one of the best-looking cars in any category. The midsize car is a showcase for the brand’s Kodo-Soul of Motion styling and SkyActiv fuelefficiency technology.

Mazda Philippines is now releasing an update of the Mazda6, including a stunning new wagon.

Styling. The Mazda6 is the rare midsize sedan that looks as appealing as a sports car. For the 2015 model, Mazda has sharpened up the looks. The grille is wider and features the signature Mazda “wings” and dark gray horizontal lines.

The exterior lighting uses all LEDs for the headlamps, taillights and even the foglamps. Nineteen-inch wheels with darkened high-luster fill out the prominent fenders nicely. A new “sonic silver” paint job is available.

Interior. The inside also gets new shiny bits, from the pianoblack climate control panel to the polished aluminum for the door handles and gearshift knob.

An electric parking brake frees up space, allowing for a larger center console.

The new Mazda6 features a heads-up display, projecting data in front of the driver’s field of vision. The display can even change its content, replacing the standard speedometer with warning messages when needed.

A highlight is the new 11speaker Bose audio system, featuring virtual surround playback and noise reduction system.

Smartphone connectivity is provided by the new MZD Connect system. This allows voice command with capability to hear tweets or Facebook posts. A 7-inch display mates with a new rotary commander for the menu system.

White leather, black leather with deep red accents, and black fabric are the upholstery choices.

Engine and transmission. The high-compression (13:1) SkyActiv four-cylinder engine produces 185.42 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters, and is mated to a six-speed automatic. The engine shuts down when the car is stationary and instantly starts up when the brake pedal is released—it’s the smoothest auto start-stop system we have experienced.

The i-ELOOP system cap- tures energy when decelerating and charges capacitors to keep the car’s electrical system powered even when the engine shuts off.

Safety. Each active LED headlamp uses four LED blocks which can be independently switched to provide wide, relatively glare-free lighting. Lane- keeping assist warns the driver of unintentional lane changes at higher speeds. ABS, stability control and traction control are also standard.

The new Mazda6 sedan is priced at P1.785 million, with the new wagon at P1.795 million. There’s a P16,800 premium for the “soul red” paint job.
