Cebuana Lhuillier and DSWD team up to help poor be disaster ready
Cebuana Lhuillier, the nation's biggest financial services provider, partners with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to cooperate in reaching out and educating Region IV-A's low-income sector about microinsurance and other financial solutions. The Memorandum of Agreement was signed recently in Makati City.
The partnership provides that through DSWD's Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), they will be able to enhance and maximize the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) benefits through financial literacy and introduction of Cebuana Lhuillier's Alagang Cebuana Plus (ACP) insurance, a customizable microinsurance that aims to provide social and risk protection to low-income Filipinos.
The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program will also include capability building trainings for more employment opportunities and orientations on the importance of microinsurance, especially to those in the lowincome sector living in areas with high calamity risks. To date, the program has approximately 30,000 beneficiaries in Region 4A alone.
"The Philippines is one of the countries with the highest natural disaster risks, and, sadly, members of the low-income sector are the most affected this. That is why we are cooperating with the DSWD to provide financial literacy trainings, emphasizing on the importance of microinsurance for the sake of disaster preparedness. In our own little way we contribute to the government's thrust of getting the country disaster ready," said Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions Vice President Leo K. Escaño.
Next in the pipeline is another Memorandum of Agreement signing of the same nature, which will cover the 4Ps beneficiaries in the National Capital Region (NCR).
