Isandaang Taon ng Himig at Tinig: Pagpupugay ng Kolehiyo ng Musika
The University of the Philippines College of Music in cooperation with Steinway-Boutique Manila invites you to TIKLADONG HIRANG, the grand opening of its Centennial Concert Series on September 24, 2015, Thursday, 6:30 in the evening at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium, Ylanan St., UP Diliman, Quezon City.
Be with us on this evening of historic piano works of Nicanor Abelardo (1893-1934), Francisco Santiago (1889-1947), Juan Hernandez (1882-1945), and Rodolfo Cornejo (1909-1991) with the soloists Pia Margarita Balasico, Augusto Espino, Luci Magalit, and Jourdann Petalver. These classic works, being the first compositions in this genre shaped the development of Philippine piano literature. Witness how these masters made use of traditional melodies and rhythm enveloped in a wide palette of harmonic structure ranging from tonal to quartal chord progression.
As a fitting synthesis of these works, we are featuring Josefino Toledo's Tikladong Hirang, a colossal yet highly appealing work for five pianos and orchestra with the pianists Ena Maria Aldecoa, Carolyn Cheng, Mita Antonia Fernandez, Geraldine Marie Gonzales, and Michelle Nicolasora. This concert will be assisted by the University of the Philippines College of Music Centennial Festival Orchestra under the baton of Josefino Toledo. The concertos will be played on a B-211 Steinway grand piano. For ticket inquiries and reservations please call 981.85.00 local 2629 and 926.00.26. -emra
