THE S-PEN: the only pen you'll ever need

-

Written communication has achieved much over the centuries. Egyptian hieroglyphs, Asian calligraphy pens, the quills of famous authors, and the ballpoint pens of the modern day achiever. Every scientific discovery, architectural marvel, and literary masterpiece was created because of the pen's legacy. However, the renaissance of the touch screen is slowly making the writing instrument obsolete. With a tap and a swipe, the world is virtually on everyone's fingertips. Is it time to forget the pen? Samsung says no.

Despite being a pioneer in technological innovation, Samsung cherishes the accomplishments of the pen and its ancestors with its unique, multi-functional precision writing tool, the all-powerful S-Pen. Much like how writing instruments were created to address their users' need to make their ideas a reality, the S-Pen was created with the productivity-seeking individual in mind.

Throughout the past five years, the S-Pen has undergone several evolutions that perfected its engineering to cater to users' every need and want. Not only was it a writing instrument, the S-Pen enabled productivity-seekers to fulfill their drive to deliver. From holding productive team meetings to working for that well-earned promotion, the S-Pen provides users with the ultimate flexibility to perform any task given to the precision tool.

The modern day stylus began its life in 1993 when it was added to one of the world's first personal digital assistant (PDA) devices. Several years after that pioneering device, the stylus became synonymous with the PDA. Eventually, the launch of consumer-grade smartphones saw the decline of the PDA device and, along with it, the stylus. The world forgot about them.

But Samsung was not about to forget a technology just because it was obsolete in the world's eyes. They saw the potential that was yet to be unlocked in digital writing & precision technology. They gave birth to the first Samsung Galaxy Note in 2011 which also revolutionized the stylus through the first-ever S-Pen. This time, it wasn't only a writing instrument. It came with a "shift" button which captured screenshots and enabled users to write on the said screenshots.

Since then, the S-Pen has built on this tradition. With every Galaxy Note successor, the S-Pen improved features and accuracy. Samsung's latest flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note5 comes with the fifth edition of the beloved S-Pen. With its new innovations, the S-Pen is primed to be the only pen you'll ever need.

First of all, rather than just being tucked into a corner, the enhanced S-Pen has a click-to-launch system. Users no longer have to fish out the stylus. A simple click releases the S-Pen from its secure location on the device.

Accessing the S-Pen activates an improved Air Command, ensuring users that the S-Pen and the Galaxy Note5 are both ready to take any action without a moment's hesitation. The Air Command opens up a menu to link writing to action: Action Memo, Smart Select, Screen Write, S Note, and customizable shortcuts.

Action Memo opens a special notepad that's capable of recognizing text and turning it into concrete actions: direct phone call, email, add to contacts, SMS, or Google® search. For example, whenever users write a phone number with a corresponding name, the Action Memo can automatically read the handwriting and create a new entry in your Contacts.

Smart Select captures content on the screen which users can select using a selection tool the S-Pen can draw with utmost accuracy. After capturing the content, users can then either share this to their friends on social media, store in the Gallery, or save it in the Scrapbook app.

Screen Write captures the whole screen for users to either write on the image or store it for future use. Additionally, the Screen Write function can also capture more than what's on the screen. Using the scroll capture feature, users can capture whole web pages which exceed the limits of the screen by scrolling down when using the Screen Write function.

S Note opens up the iconic notebook app featured only on Samsung devices. This function comes in handy during heavy productivity sessions. The S Note also has an option that allows users to select the type of pen to use - whether a fountain pen, calligraphy pen, ballpoint, pencil, highlighter, calligraphy brush. The writing experience feels & looks real because of the S-Pen's superiority in digital handwriting engineering. It exudes unparalleled responsiveness and incredibly low latency between the S-Pen and the pressure-sensitive screen that allows for sensitive, smooth writing - just like how a pen feels on paper. Where others are treading for the very first time, the S-Pen delivers users with tried-and-tested expertise, pioneered from the very start and consistently improved over the years.

Focusing on a precision tool may mean that you lose sight of other features, but what Samsung has proven with the S-Pen is that it doesn't forget. The customizable shortcut functionality of the Air Command allows users to put their favorite apps as a shortcut for immediate use upon accessing the S-Pen. This is a new feature which allows users to put their favorite features and apps front-and-center.

The S-Pen goes beyond the Air Command. With the New Off-Screen Memo, users can now write quick notes - even when the screen is off. No more fumbling for the power button and navigating through apps - just click to launch the S-Pen, and start writing on the screen. Once done, tap on the Save button to save your Off-Screen note in S Note.

With all these powerful innovations, it's easy to assume that the SPen has transcended the original definition of a stylus: a writing implement. Yet it assures users that despite being a pioneer, it has gone back to basics to improve what made the first S-Pen a great precision tool. With a true-to-life pressure sensitive screen and a very accurate pen tip, users are put in control of their writing and drawing. Using the S-Pen will not feel like tapping on a hard screen with a fake pen. It will feel like writing on a notebook with an actual pen. What's more is that users don't need to charge the S-Pen with another charger. It's accessible on the go.

What ties the magnificent S-Pen to powerful performance is the Samsung Galaxy Note5's engine: a 64-bit Exynos Octa-core processor with 14nm technology and 4GB of RAM - a towering feat over its competitors. All this power supports the Galaxy Note5's multi window capabilities. Users will be able to simultaneously browse web pages, capture & collect content, drag & drop to email, instant messaging, or S Note using the S-Pen. Truly, no other device allows its users to maximize their large screen phablets like the Galaxy Note5 with its allpowerful S-Pen.

Simply put, the S-Pen is truly the only pen that you will ever need. In one fell swoop, it has evolved and embodied the essence of history's most legendary writers into an all-powerful digital handwriting, drawing and precision tool. Together with the Samsung Galaxy Note5, the S-Pen makes up one half of Samsung's latest power couple. Together, they push productivity to their absolute limits. No other pen comes close.
