PAL Ladies: Alabang paces Aguinaldo by 10

BACOLOD—With the order of play altered at the last minute, Founders division favorite Alabang yesterday pooled 219 points and took a 10-point lead over Aguinaldo to hog the limelight in the Philippine Airlines Ladies Interclub championsh­ip at Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club here.

Rita Horan, a chef by profession, turned in 40 points—14-under-par 86 in stroke play—using the Molave System of scoring, with Jang Eun-sil firing a 37 as the Muntinlupa-based bets opened up in style.

Manila Southwoods-Masters and Cebu Country Club will both come out for their respective opening rounds today after tournament organizers, in consultati­on with all the team captains, decided to have Championsh­ip Division action in the last two days.

SW-Masters will be shooting to win a fifth straight title, while Cebu will try to win it all after coming close in the past four years, including a one-point loss last year at Alta Vista in Cebu.

Maria Josefina Gorres fired a 36 like Mary Jocelyn Garcia, with Kim Hee Sun and Marilyn Reyes’ 35s counting as Alabang threw away the 34 of Christine Popp and Joan Morales’ 29.

Manila Golf tallied 197 points with Christine Naidoo shooting 41 and Mercedes Lorenzo firing 39. Marit Yuchengco’s 33, Lorna Tabuena’s 32, Karen Yang’s 29 and Maria Lourdes Gamboa’s 23 were the other scores that counted for Manila Golf.

Valley Golf seized a 24-point lead in the Sportswrit­ers Division over NOGCC after a 228 behind Inez del Rosario’s 44 and Ma. Consuelo Fregil’s 40,

NOGCC scored 204 while Bacolod Golf took third spot with 196.
