P4 million raised by benefit art auction to raise cancer awareness
I LOVE events with a real solid cause and this is one of my favorites. Breast cancer is the most common cancer of women worldwide. If you don’t know of anyone who has suffered through this, then consider yourself extremely lucky.
My cousin is a survivor, and in all honesty having a kin suffering from the disease changes the family life, like any serious disease.
The Estée Lauder Companies’ 2015 Breast Cancer Awareness campaign is empowering women and men to defeat this deadly disease by a call-to-action. It can be as simple as wearing a pink ribbon for awareness building, getting checked or donating.
Founder Evelyn Lauder said raising awareness about the disease should involve everyone: “It really is something that can never be done by any one person; it has to be done by a group.”
So in the spirit of unity, Peninsula Manila threw its third pink party last Oct. 1. The gathering was able to raise P4 mil- lion by auctioning works of art, for the benefit of the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care Inc.
The goal for this year was to raise enough funds to complete the rehabilitation of the East Avenue Breast Care Center with the upgraded twostory structure, and provide more chemotherapy chairs to accommodate all the patients.
The Art of Pink centered on an art auction in partnership with Christie’s auction house. Remarkable artworks from celebrated Philippine artists such as BenCab, Ramon Orlina, Kenneth Cobonpue and Elmer Borlongan, were donated for this life-saving cause.
Manila’s finest showed strength in numbers by attending and supporting the event which raised P7.6 million to ensure the complete rehabilitation of the Breast Care Center.
Although the cause is serious the event was fun, people knowing that they were there doing something positive for a great cause.
