In a quandary on whom to elect for prexy

WITH Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte out in the race for the presidency—for now —the three remaining major candidates are lightweights.

Interior Secretary Mar Roxas is perceived as a weakling, Sen. Grace Poe an upstart and Vice President Jojo Binay is allegedly very corrupt.

The electorate has a very limited choice for the presidency.

Two other candidates, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago and former Ambassador Roy Señeres—although more competent and aggressive than Roxas, Poe and Binay—are not considered serious contenders.

Santiago, especially, because although she has reportedly recovered from cancer, she might suffer a relapse.

Señeres, who has a heart for the downtrodden, is known only to overseas Filipino workers.

*** I don’t want to waste myvote by boycotting the 2016 presidential elections just because Duterte could not be convinced to run.

So I am now in a quandary over whether I should vote for Arturo Pacheco Reyes or Romeo John Ygonia for President.

Reyes said he would legalize the four seasons of winter, spring, summer and fall in the country.

The Philippines has only two seasons: wet and dry.

If Reyes becomes our President, he would drive away the wet and dry seasons and summon winter, spring, summer and fall into the country.

On the other hand, Ygonia, who claims to be a “kampon” (follower) of Lucifer, would push for a “divine” government.

Which other presidential candidates can beat their platform?

Senen Sarmiento, who replaced Mar Roxas as secretary of the interior and lo- cal governments, has ordered the quick resolution of administrative cases against rogue policemen.

The concurrent chair of the National Police Commission, is a much better administrator of the police organization than his immediate predecessor.

Roxas was so entangled in his quarrel with then PNP chief Alan Purisima that he didn’t take part in collegial deliberations to dismiss erring policemen.

It is said that a good leader never quarrels with his subordinates.

Because of his bickering with Purisima, Roxas was not entrusted by President Noy with the mission to get a Malaysian terrorist named Marwan, resulting in the massacre of 44 police commandos.

If Roxas had any sense of propriety at all, he would have resigned as the top honcho of the Department of the Interior and Local Government after he learned that P-Noy had favored Purisima over him.

How do you expect Roxas to become a good President if he couldn’t even control the PNP when he was its administrator?

*** SM supermalls have opened their doors to victims of Typhoon “Lando” in severely hit areas in Luzon: the cities of Baguio and Olongapo, Pampanga, Rosales in Pangasinan and Cabanatuan in Nueva Ecija.

SM is offering free parking to car owners who want to escape the floods spawned by Lando.

It also offered shelter starting Sunday night to people in Cabanatuan City seeking refuge from the rising waters.
