Outstanding UE senior high school students to get scholarships, ‘voucher subsidy’

-

TO LOOK after the welfare of the less privileged but deserving students as it welcomes the implementation of its senior high school (SHS) program beginning 1st semester of school year 2016-17, the University of the East (UE) will be providing a voucher subsidy through the UE Alumni SHS Sponsorship Program.

UE anticipates the influx of junior graduates/Grade 10 completers of public high schools to enroll in UE, all automatically eligible for a full “voucher subsidy.” Dependent mainly on tuition and other fees that UE charges to every student, the university to stay financially viable still needs to charge top-up (portion of tuition and other school fees not covered by the voucher) to students covered by the SHS voucher program.

“This advocacy, whereby a Red Warrior alumnus may contribute to the success of the SHS Program by paying for the top-up for at least one of the students with vouchers aims at partnering with the alumni in sharing the burden and join the nation in facing these challenges to ensure that no Filipino child is left behind,” said UE president and chief academic officer Dr. Ester A. Garcia, in a letter to select UE alumnus/alumna.

Likewise, UE offers full and half scholarships for Grade 10 valedictorians and salutatorians, respectively. Grade 11 UE students in the top four ranks (provided no grade below 85 percent) can avail of 100percent discount on tuition and miscellaneous fees for first and sec- ond ranks, or 50-percent discount on tuition and miscellaneous fees for third and fourth ranks. Athletic grants with full or partial free tuition and miscellaneous fees are awarded to students with outstanding skills, aptitude and ability in sports. Family discounts on tuition and miscellaneous fees may be availed by students with four siblings simultaneously enrolled at the UE Basic Education Unit.

UE SHS enrollees have the following tracks to choose from: academic; technical, vocational and livelihood; sports; and the arts and design.
