Rañola at Art Elements

- By Brylle Tabora Contributor

JONATHAN Rañola is back at Art Elements Asian Gallery this month with his figurative portraits in acrylic and pen set amid flora and fauna on canvas and on wood.

His exhibit, “Under Tall Shady Trees,” showcases his unique stippling technique using acrylic and pen and ink to create densities of points for texture and volume.

His solitary images of women and children embraced by flowers and leaves and sometimes birds peeking in between reflect the bucolic way of life in his native Bulacan. His poetic visions are inspired by his dreams, thoughts, memories and narratives he was told and he had read.

Juan Nathaniel ‘Jonathan’ Rañola III is is a painter, graphic designer, book illustrator and art instructor. A graduate of Fine Arts from the University of Santo Tomas, he is finishing his Masters of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines Diliman. He has held exhibits at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Ayala Museum and Vargas Museum. He has won honorable mention in the 2011 and 2012 Larry Alcala Illustrator’s Prize of the Philippine Board of Books for Young People. His published illustrations were showcased at the Singapore National Library for the Asian Festival of Children’s Content.
