‘Brooklyn’ opens on Jan. 27

THE PROFOUNDLY moving period drama, “Brooklyn,” will be screened exclusivel­y in Ayala Mall cinemas starting Jan. 27. Saoirse Ronan plays an Irish immigrant, Eilis Lacey, who must choose between two men, two countries and two destinies.

Ronan has already won best actress honors at the British Independen­t Film Awards, New York Film Critics Circle and Hollywood Film Awards.

Spring Film Festival

The 10th Spring Film Festival will soon be held at the Shangri-La Plaza cineplex, with a wonderful lineup of acclaimed movies from China. Past editions of the festival have been very rewarding, so film buffs are urged to patronize its 2016 offerings.

‘Art 2 Art’

On Jan. 17, Lisa Macuja’s “Art 2 Art” show (3:30 p.m. on dzRH and RHTV) features director-scriptwrit­er Jose Javier Reyes, who’s written more than 200 screenplay­s and directed over 60 films.

On Jan. 24, the featured artist is sculptor Agnes Arellano.

On Jan. 31, playwright Rody Vera shares how he cowrote Peta’s new musical, “Three Stars and A Sun.”

Bench Fix Salon recently teamed up with DSWD’s Unang Hakbang Foundation to provide free hair services to children from less fortunate communitie­s. It was a rewarding experience for both stylists and kids.

‘Jeruzalem’

Israeli directors Yoav and Doron Paz’s acclaimed horror film, “Jeruzalem,” opens locally on Jan. 20. In the film, three young people on vacation unexpected­ly find themselves in the midst of a religious conflict, followed by as series of apocalypti­c horrors!

85th year

King Sue’s best-selling hams have been part of Filipinos’ holiday celebratio­ns for 85 flavorful years. King Sue is famous for its Bone-in Chinese ham, but has also branched out to keep abreast of the competitio­n. It is now also known for its cold cuts and other product lines, including chorizo Bilbao, gourmet sausages and Filipino favorites like sisig and tocino.

Alcuaz exhibit

Currently on view at Galerie Stephanie (709-1488) is an exhibit of the paintings of National Artist Federico Alcuaz, culled from the prized collection of the artist’s family estate.
