Boot camp is prelude to March 4 cook-off
JOLLY University (JU) held recently its third University Boot Camp in preparation for the Food Congress and Cook-Off Challenge on March 4 at Le Pavillon, Pasay City.
The annual boot camp, a project of Jolly, a leading brand in canned food and vegetables, is a workshop where select delegates get the chance to connect and learn first-hand from industry professionals. Learning and career opportunities open for aspiring entrepreneurs and chefs.
Jun Cochanco, president of Fly Ace Corp., exclusive marketer and distributor of Jolly Food Line, said they expected to see boot camp graduates become passion- ate, talented leaders and entrepreneurs.
This year’s participants received hands-on training and attended seminars: Food Styling by JU head master chef Mitchie Sison, Jolly brand ambassador/blogger Frances Amper Sales, chef Ben Bernardo, etc.
Bernardo, in his talk on “How to Become a Successful Chef,” advised the students not only to learn the basics of cooking, but also to have a well-rounded personality, combining passion, skills and knowledge.
Sales told the students that social media blogging was important and through various online platforms, marketing tools could be created to help build networks and relationships.
Resource speakers included Janice Villanueva (Events Management), chef Kalel Chan, Leo de Leon of Allegro Beverages (Finding Your Niche in the Market), and Francis Kong (Defining Your Competitive Advantage).
Participant Lorenzo Juaquin of the University of Santo Tomas said the camp taught him how to use blogs and make viral videos to promote himself and his passion.
John Prestin of La Consolacion College-Manila learned the importance of money, making smart investments and saving, among other things.
This year’s Food Congress will feature interactive and in- formative seminars, forums and culinary demonstrations and personality/career and entrepreneurship lectures.
Event partners will have booths and different activities.
Culminating activity is the cook-off with competitions in different culinary categories.
Winners, who will be announced on the same day, will receive cash prizes and products from cosponsors Fujidenzo, Masflex, Corelle and Glad. They will also receive hands-on culinary training from Sison, the Jolly Food Line team, etc.
