Poor dental health linked to migraine, respiratory infection

RESEARCH has linked poor dental health to several other diseases from migraines, respiratory infection and even some cardiovascular vascular conditions.

Glister, marketing company Amway’s brand of oral health care, stresses that dental health is a very important health issue especially because not everyone realizes that poor dental health is linked to more than just aesthetics.

The message is obvious—bad dental hygiene results in bad overall health.

1. Follow a strict oral hygiene regimen. Brushing your teeth two to three times a day, is recommended. Floss at least once a day to remove plaque and rinse with mouthwash right after, to kill leftover bacteria that may cause plaque. Finally, use a mouth spray in between as a refresher.

3. Avoid over consumption of products that can stain your teeth such as soda, coffee and tea. Brush or rinse with mouthwash immediately after consuming these beverages.

4. Eat crunchy fruits and vegetables like carrots, celery and crisp apples as they act as a natural way to clean tooth enamel without causing any damage.

5. Drink water frequently as this helps remove stain-creating plaque.

6. Visit your dentist at least twice a year for preventive maintenance. Remember, prevention is always better than repair and cure.
