BPI thanks corporate clients thru golf tourney
The Bank of the Philippine Islands gathered on Feb. 29 several executives from its top corporate accounts for a golf cup at the Ayala Greenfield Golf & Leisure Club in Calamba, Laguna.
The event started out with breakfast at the golf club veranda, boasting a prime view of Mt. Makiling. Right after, BPI President and CEO Cezar "Bong" Consing and BPI Executive Vice President and Corporate Client Segment Group Head Dennis Montecillo led the ceremonial tee off.
The System 36-format cup divided the delegates into 18 flights of four, testing their golf swings. The event concluded with lunch and the awarding rites.
The BPI Golf Cup was organized to thank the top corporates that do business with BPI, said Montecillo in his opening remarks at the awarding ceremony. The patronage, he added, has encouraged the bank to finish each year with stellar numbers.
BPI surpassed the local banking growth rate in terms of loans, which is one big feat Montecillo refused to credit to the bank alone. Referring to his faceoff with a competitive flight, he told the participants: "In some ways that's a metaphor for life because you are our best clients and … you make us better bankers."
Events like the BPI Golf Cup defined the bank's service, noted Consing in his closing remarks. "We pride ourselves in holding these pocket tournaments, and in trying to do them very efficiently and quickly." For years now, BPI has been holding much-awaited golf tilts across the country for various client segments.
"We know you are very busy, we respect how busy you are, and very much appreciate you being here today," Consing told his audience of VIPs. The BPI executives that attended the closing rites and participated in the game only drove his point home. Consing described the event best: It's an "evidence of the importance we give to you and your business."
Montecillo told the Inquirer that, through golf, the bank can show its appreciation for its clients outside the usual corporate setting. BPI still means business, however; putting a premium on quality banking.
"We are making sure that we are there to help our clients solve their biggest challenges and provide solutions for them beyond just capital. We are committed to helping them grow their business, care for their employees and mitigate risks," Montecillo said. "We put the client as our No. 1 priority."
