Porsche Design introduces its Chronotimer Series 1 Collection
In the early 1970s there was a design revolution inside the cockpits of sports cars using matte black dashboard instruments paired with white hands for optimal readability without light reflections. This became the inspiration for Porsche Design to create the world's first timepiece in matte black. In the 1980s, pure titanium was considered a high-tech material almost exclusively on the racetrack, in aeronautics, and medical technology because of its lightness, durability, robustness, corrosion resistance for high performance. Porsche Design also created the world's first chronograph entirely made of pure titanium.
These ideas that have left marks beyond the racetrack. The Chronotimer Collection by Porsche Design is more than an acknowledgment of its racing heritage. It is a celebration of its natural passion for racing. Looking at the specific needs of racing drivers, Porsche Design founder Prof. F. A. Porsche relied on matte black surfaces and titanium at an early stage. These assets have not lost any significance since then, and remain a feature of the latest collection.
A design that is sportive dynamic and highly functional
Porsche Design relies on maximum contrasts on the dial to ensure optimal readability. The special profile on the crown is also used for high-precision instruments. This design feature guarantees optimal grip for quickly and precisely setting the time and date with the Porsche Design Icon stamped on the crown and dial, detailing the hallmark of a clear design language distilled to the essential.
Using high-performance materials and innovative technology guarantee absolute comfort. So Porsche Design makes use of the light metal titanium that makes the chronographs extremely light, durable, corrosion-resistant and exceptionally hypoallergenic. The inside of the rubber strap features a LaserFlex texture, which was developed by Porsche Design to ensure greatest possible ventilation for the skin and give the strap maximum flexibility.
The Chronotimer series 1 made by Porsche Design is encased in a 42 mm titanium case with a sevenfold coated sapphire crystal protecting its carbon dial. A sapphire case back exposes the automatic chronograph (caliber ETAValjoux 7750) that features a 48 hour power reserve and branded with a Porsche Design Icon rotor. All watches in this series have a tachymeter scale etched on the bezel and is water resistant to 5 bar. These are some of the notable pieces in the Chronotimer Series 1 Collection by Porsche Design.
