Concha y Toro’s iconic Don Melchor 2012 Wine recognized as the world’s best Chilean wine
The 2012 Don Melchor Wine recently received the highest recognition in its history from the world's most influential wine critics James Suckling and Kim Marcus. Both Suckling and Marcus have decades of experience studying and rating wines on a 100-point scale. They are also part of the USbased lifestyle magazine Wine Spectator, which focuses on wine and wine culture.
Suckling and Marcus both gave Don Melchor outstanding points of 98 and 95 respectively, during the Annual Tasting of Chilean Wines held last May 2016. This fantastic recognition by these critics positioned the 2012 Don Melchor vintage as the World's Best Chilean Wine, besting more than 250 wines in the event.
Marcus even cited in his article on Wine Spectator the refined and complex character of the 2012 vintage and affirmed that "this wine is a testament to the vision and dedication of winemaker Enrique Tirado and ranks with the world´s great Cabernets. Don Melchor stands at the pinnacle of Chilean winemaking."
The 2012 Don Melchor was also selected as the Top Wine and was included on Wine Spectator's annual list of Collectible Wines, dedicated exclusively to wines of extraordi- nary potential in value and over time.
"The recognition and accolades received show that we consistently achieve the expression of the lively fruit, concentration, elegance, and the tannins that we seek in Don Melchor. All of that concentration, elegance, and its origins in the Puente Alto terroir are clearly palpable when you taste the 2012 vintage," said Don Melchor winemaker Enrique Tirado.

The history of Chilean Wines dates back from the 16th century until the French revolution in the 19th century. This was marked by the arrival of new grape varieties and vinification techniques introduced by Mr. Melchor Concha Y Toro. He was at the forefront of introducing French grape varieties from Bordeaux which he planted in Maipo Valley in 1883, this laid the foundation of what is now known as Vina Concha Y Toro.
Fast forward to mid-1980s, a change took place in the Chilean wine making when Don Melchor and French Jacques Boissenot lead in defining and making the final blend of each Don Melchor since its very first vintage in 1987.
Don Melchor is a consistent top-notch wine garnering a score of 90 points and above since it released the 1995 vintage all the way to its latest collection of 2012 vintage wines. It is a creation of 2014-2015 Most Powerful Wine Brand awardee, Concha Y Toro.
