What do you hope for in 2017?

To be You student correspondents want freedom, surprises, change–and no martial law

- —Pau Fermin, Paref Woodrose

“My goal is to be more faithful, in the sense of being loyal to someone, something or even to myself. I honestly believe in the saying that not all successful people are faithful, but all faithful people are successful.” —Shoun Nicholas David, San Beda Alabang

“I would like my 2017 to be a year without martial law. I could have asked for good health or academic success this year, but I think nothing is more important to the youth than freedom. I also hope the Administration stops solving problems through aggression, coercion and oppression this 2017. This only creates unnecessary fear in everyone.” —Lee Martin Domingo, University of the Philippines (UP) Los Baños

“I wish that 2017 would be filled with surprises and memorable experiences. As a freelance writer, I hope to attend more media coverages while keeping my grades up. I also look forward to giving more inspirational talks. Last year, I gave three inspirational talks, one about cosplay and two about features journalism. This year, I wish to improve my skills while inspiring other kids to live their dream.” –Angelica Y. Yang, UP Diliman

“‘If you’re really honest with yourself about what you want out of life, life gives it to you.’ That line, from the TV show ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ struck me a lot.

“In 2017, I hope to be more honest about what I want out of life. I want my year to be full of achievements I can be proud of because I know I will give my all to attain them. I also hope, like in 2016, to continue creating more memories with my family and friends while balancing my other priorities. And I hope I can be more open to new experiences this year. Hello, 2017!” —Tatti Pangalangan, UP Diliman

“In 2016, various companies brought out numerous films that sparked huge hype and excitement among viewers, myself included. While movies like “Civil War,” “Dr. Strange,” “Deadpool” and “Rogue One” managed to pull it off, some films did not quite make the cut. The other motion pictures barely even met my expectations.

“That being said, 2017 is filled to the brim with highly anticipated movies. I hope that “Justice League” and “Wonder Woman” become huge blockbusters and make 2017 an amazing year for filmmaking history.” —Aldrien Gonzales, Lourdes School, Quezon City “2017 will be the year the world wakes up. Where people wake up from the illusion that everything around them is ‘ just fine.’ Wake up to the reality of wars, consumerism, injustice, misogyny, discrimination, racism, poverty and so much more. Wake up and not go back to sleep. 2017 will be the year we wake up and take part in changing our world for the better.”
