STI HONES 21ST CENTURY LEARNERS THROUGH A YOUTH CONVENTION

-

For more than two decades, the STI National Youth Convention (NYC) continues to empower the youth and expand their horizons through outof-classroom learning experience that will help them become motivated individuals and productive members of society.

With the theme “Soaring High with 21st Century Skills,” the convention aims to enlighten senior high school and college students with the importance of being a 21st century learner. They will gain valuable insights and relevant lessons through fun, lively, and engaging discussions from industry experts and professionals.

“We hold the STI NYCevery year because it is one of our institution’s anticipated events that enriches the classroom learning of our students with the real life experience of the workplace. The 21st century workplace has dramatically changed with the employers’ demand for higherorder thinking, self-directed learning, and collaboration. Our students in this generation are given the advantage to learn firsthand from industry experts,” shares STI VP for academics Dr. Lloyd C. Bautista. The convention will open with the Starter Pack topic which will teach the students to redefine their purpose in life and encourage them to further develop their own personal identity by assessing their strengths and weaknesses. This will be followed by the Expansion Pack topic where delegates will be enlightened on the importance of being a lifelong learner and its effect to their personal and professional development. Finally, the event will end with a topic that will inspire the learners to use their 21st century skills in innovating and introducing next-generation technologies with Breakout!

“With the increasing competition in the global market, we are putting all our energies to this event because it will continuously improve both technical skills and personal formation of our students so they will excel in their chosen fields. We will never lose track of this aspiration. As an out-of-classroom learning experience, the NYC is a rare learning opportunity that guarantees the future of our students,” he adds.

Now on its 22nd year, the STI NYC kicked off last Nov. 25 in San Fernando, Pampanga and will then travel to different key cities nationwide including Legazpi, Baguio, Cebu, Kalibo, Bacolod, Sta. Rosa in Laguna, Pasay, Quezon City, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, and General Santos.

STI students will learn from STI NYC’s team of reputable speakers and experts: motivational speaker Velden Lim; a sought-after lay preacher (both in national and international scenes) Arun Gogna; founder and managing director of ConsultAsia Professional Solutions Inc. and certified facilitator of Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” Weena “Tinette” Cortes; managing director of the Society of Young Filipino Speakers John Bernard “Bernz” Caasi; an international speaker and also the sales director of SM Development Corp. (SMDC) Dennis Evangelista; and a veteran NYC speaker and STI faculty member Ferdinand “Ricky” Bunag.

The STI National Youth Convention is an annual convention designed to reach more than 30,000 students across the country. It provides an alternative and innovative venue for them to improve their competencies and keep up with the latest trends in the industry.
