- RAOULJ. CHEEKEE

After marking its 50th anniversary of operations in the Philippines last year, Singapore Airlines (SIA) is celebrating its 70th anniversary with a series of launches and activities scheduled throughout the year.

For starters, it is offering promotional fares at the Singapore Airlines Showcase and Travel Fair 2017 to be held at the Glorietta Activity Center on Jan. 20-22, and the TriNoma Activity Center on Feb. 26-28.

All-inclusive round-trip economy class fares to Singapore and other Asian destinations are available starting at $160 (all amounts are in US dollars).

Fares to Australia start at $570 while flights to key destinations in Europe start at $670. During the travel fair, there will also be flights to South Africa starting at $770 and to the US starting at $970.

Discounted tickets for travel from Feb. 1 to Dec. 31, 2017 can also be purchased online at the SIA and SilkAir ticket offices from Jan. 20 to Feb. 20.

Carol Ong, SIA general manager for the Philippines, quoting figures from the Tourism Department, said that more Filipinos are traveling more often. “If, in the past, they used to plan one big trip with family or friends in a year, now some of them book quarterly trips—that’s four trips yearly,” she said.

While not all Filipinos can afford to take a vacation every three months, they are always on the lookout for travel deals, and Ong is banking on that.

“For our 70th year, we con- tinue to push our boundaries by expanding our network and pioneering services guaranteed to give the best experience to our customers,” she said. “We want to continue doing our best to exceed our customers’ expectations—whether it be more travel destinations, more frequent flights or more great value deals.”

If they are so inclined, passengers can experience SIA’s newest cabin offering, the Premium Economy Class with round-trip fares to Asian destinations starting at $1,000; to Australia from $1,350; to Europe from $1,500, and to South Africa from $1,700. A trip to New Zealand on Premium Economy Class starts at $1,800; and to the US for $1,850.

SIA’s business all-in class fares start at $850 to various Southeast Asian destinations, from $2,000 to Australia, from $2,500 to Europe or New Zealand, and from $3,000 to the US or South Africa.

Aside from discounted tickets, there will also be other offerings during the travel fair including: zero-percent installment plans for BPI credit cardholders and upfront $50 cash back, access to two of Singapore’s attractions with the Singapore exPass, and a S$20 Changi voucher that passengers can redeem at Singapore Changi Airport shops.

The promotional fares are exclusive to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer members, BPI credit cardholders, Globe Platinum customers as well as Glorietta, TriNoma and Ayala Center Cebu shoppers. —
