CEU LAW DEAN LEADS UPSILON UNO AWARDEES
Upsilon Sigma Phi recently kickstarted its 2018 centennial celebrations by awarding prominent and excelling members with the highest Upsilonian Noble and Outstanding (UNO) Award.
Chairman Ray Orozco of Upsilon Sigma Phi Alumni Association (USPAA) said that the centennial celebrations must start with a high note--one that honors those who have excelled in the service of the brotherhood and the nation.
According to USPAA president Atty. Jesse Andres, the UNO award is only given every two years when the fraternity holds its biennial Congress. "It allows us to pay tribute to those who have championed excellence of service in their respective fields of endeavor. It also gives our young members solid examples that they can emulate as future leaders in their fields".
The prestigious UNO Award is only given to select Upsilonians who meet a strict criteria that include among others the distinction of national service. Leading the list of distinguished awardees last March 26 was Senior Justice Josue Bellosillo of Batch '52, Dean of CEU School of Law and Jurisprudence and the 2016 University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) Distinguished Alumnus Awardee in Law.
He retired from the Supreme Court with "zero" backlog, i.e., with no case left undecided. In his acceptance speech, he narrated that one of the greatest decisions he had made in life was to join the company of outstanding men of character and intelligence. According to him, "The Upsilon Sigma Phi drives you to excellence and to serve your country in the best way you can. In the Upsilon, one needs to excel in his chosen field--that is just how it is; it is tradition!"
The UNO awardees include Erdie Malveda (Batch '69), Behn Cervantes ('58), Justice Josue Bellosillo ('52), Dion Dela Serna ('57), former UP president Alfredo Pascual ('67), Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador Jess Yabes ('66), Eliseo Ilano ('57), Teodoro Yabut ('49) and Author Efren Yambot ('60).
