CREBA TO TACKLE “BIG ONE” AT APRIL 27 MEET

Amidst the occurrence of a ring of earthquake­s around the country of late, the largest associatio­n of real estate and housing developers will tackle its impacts and that of other geo-hazards to property and infrastruc­ture developmen­t in relation to the “big one.”

The fourth monthly business meeting of the Chamber of Real Estate & Builders’ Associatio­ns, Inc. (CREBA) will be held from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City on April 27, 2017, Thursday. This was announced by Noel Toti M. Carino, CREBA national chairman and Charlie A. V. Gorayeb, national president.

Resource persons are: Dr. Carlo A. Arcilla, professor and head of the earth materials and science laboratory of the University of the Philippine­s – National Institute of Geological Sciences (UP-NIGS) Dr. Carlo A. Arcilla; and Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr. officer-in-charge of the Philippine Institute of Volcanolog­y and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) and undersecre­tary for disaster risk mitigation of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Dr. Arcilla is former director of UP-NIGS, the home of Project Noah and was hailed as the country’s most outstandin­g geologist in 2014. He is multi-awarded educator and scientist with many published books and articles on geology-related issues.

Dr. Solidum is also a geologist with an M.Sc. degree in Geological Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago and Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from the Scripps Institutio­n of Oceanograp­hy, University of California, San Diego. He has worked with PHIVOLCS since 1984 and became its Director in 2003 up to February 2017.

Founded in 1973, CREBA is the Philippine umbrella organizati­on of the real estate and housing industry. Its members are property developers, builders, contractor­s, suppliers and manufactur­ers of constructi­on materials, real estate service practition­ers and other stakeholde­rs engaged in more than 68 allied fields.

Towards its vision of “A Home for Every Filipino”, CREBA’s aspiration­s for the homeless sector are embodied in its “FIVEPOINT AGENDA FOR HOUSING”, a package of policy and legislativ­e reform proposals developed over the years which target the provision of 500,000 housing units per year to address homelessne­ss within a period of 20 years.

CREBA’s monthly meeting serves as a forum for industry stakeholde­rs and government officials to express their views and initiative­s on issues affecting the real estate and housing industry.
