LANCASTER’S GRAND FAMILY WEEKEND
The sun shone bright for the participants of the Grand Family Weekend last LancasterApril 23 Newin City Cavite. The 1,600 hectare township development served as a backdrop for the funfilled day with activities for families, friends and furry friends. On its second year, Lancaster New City Cavite upped the ante by adding the Duathlon event—a 3K run-20K bike-3K run around the vicinity. Over two hundred answered the starting gun for the duathlon which lasted for two hours. With the successful staging of last year's fun run, Lancaster New City brings back the Fam Run. Categories include 3K, 5K and 10K run with the latest addition of timing chips. Organized by Trisports, the Duathlon and Fam Run had more than a thousand participants. Marianne Oloris, a 29-year-old from Bacoor, Cavite, finished the 10K race where she clocked 2 hours and 7 minutes. She said she was awed by the wide-open spaces and was brought closer to nature with all the green landscape during her run. “The run was wellorganized even if the summer heat was rising, the trees and fresh air made my run comfortable. It's nice to participate in a fun run outside the Metro where it's usually crowded and polluted,” she said.
For nonrunners and young ones, the Grand Family Weekend had lots in store for them. In the Fam Fair Village, there was the SpectaculaRUN — a 1.5K run with seven obstacles to hurdle. As a throwback to the our Pinoy roots, favorite pastimes such as patintero and other larong Pinoy were also enjoyed by the participants during the event last April 23. Kids were entertained while molding clay, having their face painted and was dazzled by the tricks during the magic show.
