Celebs recall lessons learned from their mothers
It’s been 14 years since my “SuperwoMom” got her “call slip” from heaven. But to this day, some people still call me “Anak ni Inday Badiday”—and that never fails to make me smile. Being her daughter will always be my best credential.
As we celebrate Mother’s Day tomorrow, I remember all the “Mommyisms” that Ma left me with. One of my faves is: “When you have to end a rela- tionship, make sure you do so while you still have some selfrespect left.”
No matter how famous celebs are, they need some “mothering” every now and then. As a Mother’s Day special, I asked some stars to share some of the “words of wisdom” they got from their moms. Here goes:
Kindness is the key to happiness. If you have everything but you
IAN VENERACION:
aren’t kind, you’ll never be truly happy.
NADINE LUSTRE: Always take care of yourself because if you’re happy and feel good about yourself, everything else will follow.
OGIE ALCASID: Mom is the one who planted the seed of prayer in my heart. She would always say, “Pray first.” She would always remind me that family comes first. Wisdom from moms is the best because they speak the truth. JASMINE CURTIS-SMITH: Take your time and take care of yourself. Whatever you’re going through, just keep going as long as it’s still good for you.
ERIC QUIZON: There’s nothing wrong when you humble yourself—she has instilled this to the very core of my being.
RHIAN RAMOS: You can do anything you put your mind in-
to. It made me believe that anything was possible.
YASSI PRESSMAN: Do everything for family. In love, distance doesn’t matter.
ROCCO NACINO: Always make the right decision in life—and if you make a bad one, make sure you learn from it. When you invest, make sure you have enough set aside—never put all your eggs in one basket.
No matter what happens, always put family first.
ZIA QUIZON: She taught me to be myself. Embrace the best in people, but also accept their flaws. Know when to let go. Always choose to be better. Being great isn’t as important as being good.
IYA VILLANIA: More than what she’s actually taught me, it’s really just the good example that she is. The unconditional love she has shown me makes me want to do the same for my family.
BARBIE FORTEZA: There is nothing you can’t achieve if you want it badly enough.
RICHARD YAP: I don’t know if it applies today, but my mom used to quote a Chinese saying which is translated [as follows]: Children should have ears, but no mouth. This means that children should always listen to what their elders are saying, so that they can learn from them. But they should not butt in or gossip about what they hear.
