BORNEA CLAIMS SUPER FLY BELT
DAVAO CITY— Jake Bornea floored Renerio Arizala in the eighth round to claim the vacant World Boxing Federation Intercontinental Super Flyweight title Saturday.
The slugger from General Santos City threw a combination in the midsection that opened up Arizala’s chin late in the round to the delight of the partisan crowd at Waterfront Insular Hotel Pavilion here.
Highly-acclaimed interna- tional referee Tony Weeks stepped in to prevent Arizala from receiving more punishment and declared Bornea winner by technical knockout.
Weeks is known for officiating blue-chip fights of Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao against Marco Antonio Barrera, Oscar De La Hoya and the third installment of his clash with Juan Manuel Marquez.
Rosekie Cristobal seized the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) lightweight title with a sixth-round stoppage of Alvin Makiling.
