Unbreakable Summer Fashion Rules You Should Know

The SM Style Series Settled Some of the Toughest Summer Style Dilemmas

-

The trusted style gurus behind one of the best fashion magazines, Mega Magazine, taught the crowd how to dress up fabulously this summer without being #basic for the fifth leg of The SM Store’s #SMStyleSeries, entitled #SMStyleSeriesxMega.

In line with Mega’s 25th anniversary, Mega’s editor-inchief Peewee Reyes-Isidro and Mega and Mega Man’s associate editor Angelo Ramirez de Cartegena shared solutions to 25 daunting summer style problems. In a nutshell, here are some of summer fashion pointers the duo shared:

Black and white: You can go all-white or all-black during the summer season, but make sure you choose different fabrics, shades and silhouettes to elevate the outfit.

Print it out: Beginners should start with experimenting with just 2 pieces that are not too loud. Play with different textures and use the same kind of print. Remember to consider your skin color when choosing prints.

From beachwear to street wear: You can wear your tank tops and swimwear outside the beach, but cover up a bit. For tank tops, there are two things you should keep in mind: make sure you have something to show off, and go for monotone colors. Basically, the key to looking put together is balance.

Accessorizing right: If you plan on piling on accessories this summer, the trick is to make one statement piece stand out and to choose complimentary pieces to polish your look. Your belt and shoes don’t have to match. They just have to complement one another.

Splash of color: If you’re keen on going head-totoe color, try going monotone first. Going for a monotone look is also a great way to look lean, long and sophisticated without being boring. To punch up an everyday look, opt for bright colors like primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and pink.

Shoe in: Flipflops are not your only option when hitting the beach. Explore wearing different footwear like sandals, gladiators and wedges. If you’re stuck in the city, try wearing sneakers outside the gym. Pair your favorite sneakers with something clean, sleek and structured to take your look to the next level.

Classic with a twist: You don’t need to buy a new set of wardrobe for a fresh summer look. Refresh your summer classic stripes by going for a nautical look with unconventional details. Give your tailored trousers a break by wearing your favorite blazer with light bottoms.

Fashion plus comfort: You can pair your loose clothes together by making sure that what you wear is not really baggy. It’s best to have one tailored piece to look polished. The same goes with sleepwear. Just don’t make your look lousy.

It’s a match: To give your denim on denim look a boost, look for interesting details like fringe or distressed details. Also, wear the same washes. Your outfit doesn’t always have to be matchy. Add an interesting piece for some flavor.

The SM Style Series will be held at SM Makati and The SM Store, Aura on 8 Saturdays from March 31 to May 27.

The SM Store, Aura #SMStyleSeries are on the following dates: May 20, Jigs Mayuga SM Beauty Makeover Master; May 27, Pam Quinones of L’Officiel Manila.
