Great European finds at Abitare Internazionale

- TESSA PRIETO-VALDES

Home furnishings and accessories truly enhance any living space creating that personalized design style. This can be achieved with choosing the right home décor according to theme and color scheme.

For a fine selection of European pieces, Abitare Internazionale is an excellent shop to visit and marvel at the wonderful options to fill up any home or condominium unit.

Over the last two decades, Abitare Internazionale—the country’s distributor of the global design industry’s stellar lines of European furniture and home accessories—has brought the best in contemporary design from around the world to the Philippines. The shop is highly appreciated for its pioneering efforts to promote the idea that good design truly enriches our lives.

Interior designers Filaine Tan and Jeane Wee are at the helm of Abitare.

Their artistic sensibilities lie “beyond” the realm of contemporary artbeyond scale, beyond art, beyond now. And it is precisely this aesthetic that draws Abitare to the MOOOI exhibit yearly at the Milan Furniture Fair.

MOOOI is a Dutch global brand of furniture and accessories, created in 2001 by design genius, Marcel Wanders. MOOOI creates pieces that springboard from fresh concepts and takes aesthetic risks by playing with proportion, experimenting with scale, injecting whimsy, and repurposing functionality. Its latest endeavor is MOOOI Carpets.

Upon closer inspection of the wall art carpets, the Abitare team saw its in- tricacies of design and exceptional quality of workmanship.

Immediately, the idea of creating wall art carpets with our very own BenCab’s paintings seemed like the best project for Abitare’s long-time initiative in elevating Filipino design sensi- bilities and promoting Philippine art in the worldwide stage.

MOOOI Carpets, the benchmark in carpet manufacturing and National Artist for Visual Arts BenCab, the best representative of Philippine Art, were put together by Abitare to produce his original paintings in larger scale and in carpet form as wall art.

This BenCab + MOOOI collection comes in eight designs with only eight highly coveted pieces per design.

A complement to the MOOOI brand of furniture and accessories, MOOOI Carpets are breathtaking, eccentric and playful. Designed by renowned name from the world of interior design, fashion, visual arts, textile design, illustration and illustrative photography : Barbara Broekman, Bertjan Pot, david/nicolas, Edward van Vliet, Klaus Haapaniemi, Ross Lovegrove, Maison Christian Lacroix, Neri & Hu, Valerio Sommella, and Marcel Wanders to name a few.

Each piece is an extremely high definition print from the groundbreaking Chromojet 800 printer that produces photo realistic images in diverse and accurate tones creating an unlimited mix of colors. This provides a playful illusion of depth and layers, resulting in a deceivingly multi-dimensional carpet. Such is the genius of MOOOI Carpets.

Abitare proudly launched the collaboration of these limited edition tapestries recently at Manila House. Moooi CEO Martien Valentijn and Chief Marketing Officer Aart-Jan Jocker flew in just to grace the event.

Filaine and Jeanne from Abitare Internazionale talked about the concept and collaboration behind the masterful pieces while honoring the genius of BenCab.

During the well-attended affair, a toast was given to Abitare Internazionale’s 20th year, BenCab’s 75th birthday, and Moooi Carpets.

Abitare Internazionale is the exclusive distributor of Walter Knoll, FLOU , Moooi & Moooi Carpets, Montis, Prostoria , Laura Meroni & Arcade. It is located at Crown Tower, 107 HV dela Costa St., Salcedo Village, Makati City.
