40 years of no boundaries for Natori

Promoting Philippine art as contemporary tapestry

Time travel may not be possible, but making the most of your time is! Indeed, time goes by so quickly, but with high-speed technology, we can actually do multiple things simultaneously.

Forty years has gone by so fast for Josie Cruz Natori, founder of The Natori Company. Since this famed US-based Filipino designer made the move from being a successful banker to becoming a fullfledged fashion designer in the late ’70s, Josie has created the Natori brand to become a veritable name in luxury lingerie, sleepwear, accessories, readyto-wear and home accessories.

Exemplifying her own mantra of no boundaries, Josie crossed continents, navigated varying careers and surmounted countless obstacles to create a global brand, Natori. What began with creating lingerie on her living room floor has truly evolved into a lifestyle.

Starting from the back door of fashion with lingerie, Natori is now a total concept, a way of life. As the company grew, so did their sensibility, taking the concept and making it a whole world. Josie shares, “Natori is ‘where life meets art.’”

To celebrate 40 years of the art of Natori, a special capsule collection was created—a collection that epitomizes the Natori lifestyle, handcrafted in the Philippines. Rustan’s, on behalf of Josie Natori, invited the city’s most prominent and fashionable to gather at Manila House and see up close the latest collection.

Natori’s signature East-meets-West style infuses her pieces with a spirit culled from the rich patterns, textures and landscapes of Asia, which was evident in her Spring 2017 collection showcase. The collection will be available at Rustan’s Makati and Shangri-La, as well as Rustan’s Cubao and Cebu.

After the elegant fashion show, Josie shared her deep appreciation and gratitude to the Rustan’s family, especially to patriarch and chair emeritus Ambassador Bienvenido Tantoco Sr. and Rustan’s CEO Nedy

Tantoco, for making it possible to have her brand available to the local market.

BenCab becomes wall art

On the same day and the same place as the Natori anniversary celebration, Abitare Internazionale hosted a celebration for its 20th anniversary. Abitare is the Philippine distributor of the global design industry’s stellar lines of European furniture and home accessories.

For this milestone, Abitare partnered with two art icons, Dutch design giant MOOOI Carpets and National Artist for Visual Arts Benedicto “BenCab”

Cabrera, for a formidable project. This is a push in Abitare’s initiative of elevating Filipino design sensibilities and promoting Philippine art on the worldwide stage.

What better way to promote Philippine art than by riding the international resurgence of carpet as wall art or contemporary tapestry?

BenCab + MOOOI Carpets is a limited-edition collection of tapestries of BenCab’s original paintings in larger scale and in carpet form as wall art. The BenCab + MOOOI collection comes in eight designs, with only eight highly coveted pieces per design.

Abitare owners Filaine Tan and Jeane Wee came up with the idea of creating wall art carpets with our very own BenCab’s paintings. The result is an outstanding collection of incredible tapestries. Moooi CEO Martien Valentijn and chief marketing officer

Aart-Jan Jocker flew in just to grace the event. The celebration ended with a toast to Abitare Internazionale’s 20th year, BenCab’s 75th birthday and Moooi Carpets.

Hair, hair!

Speaking of anniversaries, Svenson, the trusted name for proven effective hair loss solutions, marked its 36th year in the industry recently. I joined the celebration with the rest of the Svenson’s endorsers, including Allan Caidic, Chico Garcia, Gino Quillamor, Philip Cu-Unjieng, Issa Litton and Ricci Chan.

With the theme “The Hairloss Authority,” Svenson celebrated another year of success and strengthened its thrust in offering a complete range of treatments for hair loss and other hair and scalp problems. No matter what stage of hair loss you are in, Svenson has a solution for you, from prevention to correction to restoration.

The celebration was also a way to showcase the success stories of Svenson’s Hair Transplant Procedure, its latest offering. Performed by experienced, board-certified and aesthetically-trained plastic surgeons, the procedure safely and permanently gives you back a full head of hair that looks natural, complements your facial structure, and makes you look years younger again. With complete pre- and posttransplant care, you know you’re in good hands.

Svenson is in a league of its own, as it is the only center that houses hair loss treatments, nonsurgical hair replacement systems, and hair transplants under one roof. Originally established in London, Svenson opened in the Philippines in 1981 and pioneered in technologically advanced solutions for hair loss, changing the game in a market saturated with shampoos and over-the-counter topical medications.

Another thing that sets Svenson apart is its team of qualified trichologists (hair and scalp experts) whose thorough assessment and correct diagnosis allow Svenson to get to the root of your hair and scalp problems. With countless success stories of men and women who stopped further hair loss and now have thicker, healthier and stronger hair again, Svenson became the tried, tested and trusted name when it comes to hair and scalp expertise.
