The Environmen­tal and Climate Change Research Institute, as represente­d by its founder and senior research scientist Glenn Banaguas, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Mindanao Developmen­t Authority (MINDA) last March 4. Aside from Banaguas, the other signatorie­s were Cardinal Orlando Quevedo, Mindanao River Basin Management Council president Hon. Datu Hj. Abul Khayr Alonto, and MINDA Undersecre­tary Janet Lopoz. The Terms of Reference (TOR) of the MOA aim to promote, implement and monitor the “F-E-W for U” System: ACCA-DRRMSoluti­on for Food- Energy-Water Nexus Interactio­ns in Mindanao; as well as conduct trainings, capacity buildings, and consultati­on workshops of various stakeholde­rs (e.g. Provincial Government, Local Government, Higher Education Institutio­ns, Civil Society Organizati­ons, Church Leaders, and Private Sector) in the region on People’s Survival Fund (PSF). This agreement is part of the bigger program, Climate Smart Mindanao, headed by Banaguas. Banaguas is an Outstandin­g Young Scientist of the Philippine­s and a US-ASEAN Fellow for Science and Technology, among his other distinctio­ns.
