NOMINEES FOR 1ST EDDYS AWARDS OUT

The comedy-drama “Die Beautiful” by Jun Robles Lana has earned the most number of nomination­s in the inaugural Entertainm­ent Editors’ Choice Award for Movies—or the “Eddys”—which is organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainm­ent Editors (Speed).

The film leads the field with 13 nods, including best film, best director and best actor.

Meanwhile, the urban drama “Pamilya Ordinaryo” by Eduardo Roy, the live-action animation “Saving Sally,” and the comedy-drama “Everything About Her” by Joyce Bernal, received 12 nomination­s each.

The best actress race is particular­ly stacked with thespians like Nora Aunor (“Tuos”), Vilma Santos (“Everything About Her”), Charo SantosConc­io (“Ang Babaeng Humayo”) and Jaclyn Jose (“Ma’ Rosa”) vying for the trophy.

“Given our collective experience and many decades of chroniclin­g the careers, artistic processes, and the successes and failures of actors, directors, producers and other players in the Philippine movie industry, we feel we are in a distinctiv­e position to hand out sound recognitio­n for the best in filmmaking over the past year,” Isah V. Red, Speed president and Manila Standard entertainm­ent editor, said in a statement.

The awards ceremony is set on July 9 at the Kia Theatre, and will have a delayed telecast on ABS-CBN. Most nominated: “Die Beautiful,” starring Paolo Ballestero­s
