UP PAN XENIA FRATERNITY DONATES TO INQUIRER FOUNDATION
The University of the Philippines Pan Xenia Fraternity recently donated to the Inquirer Foundation because the values of their organization is aligned with the very ideals of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
The cash grant was aimed to widen the efforts of the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s endeavor in extending financial assistance to students of the country’s top university. Funds were generated from the organization’s Good Reel event wherein students sold block screening tickets to “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” movie at Robinson’s Galleria Cinema.
Raphael Layosa, 22, the governor of Pan Xenia Fraternity is currently a fourth year student at the University of the Philippines Diliman and the CEO of RetailGate, a market research firm he owns. Due to the fact that it is a way of giving back to the community, he said that they chose to donate to the Inquirer Foundation because “it is a token of goodwill to the community.” “As Iskolars ng Bayan, we want to channel our efforts into a better cause whereas the benefit of the donation goes to the well-deserved students of the university,” he added.
The Inquirer’s scholarship program has provided support to over 70 students in the course of more than two decades. Beneficiaries of the said program receive financial aid until they graduate. The Inquirer scholars are eventually absorbed into the workforce of the Inquirer Group.
When asked what was the most important consideration the fraternity made in choosing the Inquirer Foundation above other advocacy groups to receive the grant, Layosa answered, “the essence of the Philippine Daily Inquirer as a media institution is what we believe in. The most important quality of any relationship established is honesty.”
Layosa explained that the values of their organization is also aligned with the very ideals that the Inquirer upholds, “the prerequisite of becoming part of our organization is that one has to have the cardinal virtues of honesty and integrity.”
