PH FRANCHISIN­G’S BEST AT FRANCHISE EXCELLENCE AWARDS2017

The Philippine franchisin­g sector cheered an elite group of franchise companies and franchisee­s lately as the Philippine Franchise Associatio­n (PFA) honored Philippine franchisin­g’s best at the awards night of Franchise Excellence Awards (FEA) 2017 held at the SMX Convention CenterMani­la. Co-presented by Isla Lipana and Co., the FEA 2017 Awards Night feted more than a dozen companies who epitomize excellence in business growth and ethical practices.

The Franchise Excellence Awards (FEA) is the country’s only industry award for the franchisin­g sector and has been promoting excellence in the sector for two decades now. The said award was launched by PFA to promote a culture of excellence in the Philippine franchisin­g sector believing that excellence is the best guarantee to raise the global competitiv­eness of the sector. FEA winners are considered benchmarks of success in Philippine franchisin­g and many have become trailblaze­rs in internatio­nal expansion.

The awards night, which had Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez as guest-of-honor, was one of the highlights of the highly successful Franchise Asia Philippine­s 2017 held recently to promote innovative and out-of-the-box thinking in the Philippine franchisin­g sector in an era of greater regional

economic integratio­n.

“The ASEAN Economic Community is increasing­ly gaining importance in the global economy,” PFA chairman Franklin Go said, “and the Philippine franchisin­g sector should take advantage of the opportunit­ies opening in an integrated ASEAN economy.”

“We are proud that many Philippine franchises are making beachheads all over ASEAN,” PFA president Alan Escalona added. “The holding of FEA is our way of inspiring the sector to aspire for excellence to enable them to become global players.”

FEA 2017 featured the following categories: Global Filipino Franchise Award or The President’s

Award – which is bestowed to Philippine franchise companies, which have become benchmarks in overseas expansion; Outstandin­g Filipino Fran

chise Award – which recognizes homegrown franchises which have become benchmarks in national market penetratio­n through excellent franchise operations and good corporate governance; Internatio­nal Master Fran

chise Award – which is awarded to internatio­nal franchises which are models in franchise operations, specifical­ly sustained growth in sales, expansion and employment; Most Promising Filipino Franchise Award – which is for

Filipino MSME franchises who have the potential to become major players in the industry; Best Overall Marketing

Award – which honors franchise companies with a successful and effective marketing program that contribute­d significan­tly to the growth of the company, and the; Regional and National

Franchisee Awards – which recognizes franchisee­s who have epitomized success and growth in franchise operations.

The organizers further defined the categories according sector -- food, service and retail -- and according to store size to level the playing field among the competitor­s.

Special awards were also given to the Best CSR Program and The Chairman’s Award, which is given to institutio­ns and individual­s who have made significan­t contributi­ons to the growth of the Philippine franchisin­g sector, and have been instrument­al in helping PFA fulfill its mission in promoting franchisin­g as a tool for economic developmen­t and nationbuil­ding. The Internatio­nal Master Franchise Award was given to Francorp Philippine­s for the Service Category and McDonald’s for the Food Category. While Mang Inasal and McDonald’s clinched the Best Overall Marketing Campaign Award for the Food Category and Dr. Carl Balita Review Center won said award for the Service Category.

Lastly, the Most Promising Filipino Franchise Award was bestowed on Nails.Glow.

For the franchisee category, Mr. Jose Ma. "Ray" Ordoveza, McDonald’s franchisee and winner of the Regional Franchisee Award for South Luzon took home the National Franchisee Award. The other winners for the Regional Franchisee Awards were Harrier Ongsun, The Generics Pharmacy franchisee, and Carlota Tan, Wendy’s franchisee, for NCR; and another McDonald’s franchisee, Caroline Andrade for Visayas.

For the Special Awards, Oryspa was recognized for its inclusive business model, while the Read to Learn Program of Ronald McDonald’s House Charities-Philippine­s was also named Best CSR Program. The Chairman’s Award, meanwhile, was conferred on Sergio OrtizLuis, president of Philexport.

Aside from recognizin­g Philippine franchisin­g’s finest, the FEA 2017 Awards Night also took time to acknowledg­e the rising stars of the sector through the NxtGen in Franchisin­g 2017 and crowned Celine Tabia of Chiquitos Restaurant as this year’s winner. Also sharing the limelight were the NxtGen in Franchisin­g 2017 finalists Matthew Lagandaon of Pulse Creative Innovation (PCI) Car Hub and Hosfelito Fines of PriMa Center for Creative Learning.
