From masculine elegance to the romantic Victorian–only at Massimo Dutti

It unveils its limited-edition collection in Shanghai–its first show in Asia

Spanish fashion house Massimo Dutti revealed its Fall/Winter 2017 Limited Edition collection in the trailblazing city of Shanghai.

The event last July was the brand’s first catwalk show in Asia, and the city’s romance, heritage and modernity perfectly reflected this milestone.

The show was held at Shanghai 1933, an emblematic, heritage-listed Art Deco building finished in that year, now transformed into a creative hub.

Spiral staircases, large, concrete atriums, spherical structures, bridged walkways and thick walls give the 32,500-sqm property its unique industrial look. It is the “last remaining of its design,” according to the Atlas Obscura travel guide.

The building was transformed into an ultramodern music box powered by the latest technology. The show was brought to life by a mash- up of traditional and electronic music.

It was a visual treat. Three visual representations were at play—the actual catwalk, a large audio visual screen and an interactive holographic screen —synched and staged with precision and consistency, symbolic of the brand’s core standards.

Monochromatic

For its women’s collection, the brand went for elegance. “The Dutti woman is feminine, classic and beautiful,” Damiano Bella, head of design for women’s division, said in a statement released to media. The collection is, without a doubt, the same.

Luxurious outerwear in lush knits and buttery leather, luscious silk with elegant detailing, and impeccable workmanship takes the collection and the Dutti women in the right direction of dreamlike fantasy.

Sophisticated bows, pretty pleats and Victorian ruffles provide the touch of romance, made contemporary with a play on textures and silhouettes.

Desirable is the perfect word to describe the collection, one that women would envision themselves in. Ribbed knits mixed with elongating silks, tailored suits juxtaposed with lush velvet, and graceful dresses that flowed as the models crossed the catwalk, were tinted in either subdued neutrals, winter whites, dusty pinks and stark, show-stopping crimsons and yellows. This season, one thing is for sure: monochromatic styling is key.

Pedro Muro, Massimo Dutti head footwear designer, explained the inspiration behind the women’s collection: “In mind was the castle lady in a flowing cape. She’s feminine, timeless. On a horse, she’s in her riding boots. Inside the castle, she wears mules.”

An epitome of easy elegance, the collection was proof that quality, comfort, enduring style and exquisite taste are the ultimate standard of true luxury.

Massimo Dutti’s Limited Edition men’s collection is rooted in ease. Refined cuts and outlines are meant to be layered to update casual, everyday options for all types of men.

The key pieces, predominantly in neutrals, were styled tone-on-tone—at times with sporadic brights—and accessorized with leather add-ons and long scarves.

Modern while upholding the standards—that’s the Massimo Dutti man.

Star-studded list

Hong Kong-born singer-actor Bosco Wong, the first celebrity Massimo Dutti collaborated with, sat at front row. Also present were actress Adi Kan, fashion bloggers Anny Style on Top, Gooboi, Dipsy and other Asian online influencers and key media.

For Fall/Winter ’ 18, Massimo Dutti presents a Tuscan-inspired RTW collection. Inspired by the region’s beautiful arts and rich Renaissance roots, the collection displays the perfect balance between comfort, style and timeless elegance that make perfect wardrobe investments.

True to the fall and Tuscan palettes, pieces are tinted in earthy hues and complementary colors of orange, amber, blue and gray.
