HOW TO BE A ‘STARPRENEUR’

-

Recently, the Young Entrepreneurs’ Society held its annual flagship event, “Starpreneur,” at the Natividad Fajardo Auditorium of De La Salle University Manila.

The event allowed different entrepreneurs to share their success stories and experiences to aspiring business leaders, to contribute to their holistic development in knowledge, skills and attitude.

The program started with an open forum, with JB Borromeo and Edgardo Marquez presiding. Borromeo is the author of “Best You, Best Life,” a book that inspires and motivates people in life and in their careers.

On the other hand, Marquez is the cofounder of Marz Fuel Trading, a small independent gas station that sources its fuel from refineries in the Philippines and other Asian countries.

The two speakers did not only encourage the audience to ask questions, but to also express their thoughts and opinions.

Innovative startup

The next speaker, Jackie Yap, related his experiences as an entrepreneur and the knowledge he gained from his journey. He narrated how he founded HiGi Energy, an innovative startup that converts water hyacinth into accessible clean cooking energy.

Yap, like Borromeo and Marquez, made his talk more interactive by inviting the audience to keep asking more questions and voice out their thoughts.

Lastly, Pau Joquino discussed 10 key success tips and strategies for life and entrepreneurship. His organization, the Integrating Science in the Philippines (Isip), aims to arouse curiosity and promote science through YouTube videos, magazines and camps.

He talked about his experiences as a student and how the Philippine Science High School paved the way for him and his schoolmates to establish Isip.

Joquino wanted to create a sustainable and concrete program that would help people appreciate science and innovation. Isip held its first program, the Discovery Science Camp, a five-day event that hosted public and private school students from grades 7 to 10.

The informative and engaging activities led to the event’s success. The students were able to apply practices and goals for the users to create a more sustainable environment through science and research.

Opportunity

“Starpreneur” provided an opportunity for the participants to explore ideas and gain more knowledge through the event. What the speakers had in common was their motivation and desire to inspire and spark creativity and innovation among the participants through their stories, insights, experiences and activities.

They also hope to encourage and help them develop a better understanding of entrepreneurship.

Aside from gaining more knowledge from this topic, the speakers wanted to tell people that taking risks is an important part of life, and that the business ventures they put up should not just be for profit, but also help improve society.
