PINOYS DOMINATE GUAM DRAGON BOAT FEST

Manila-based dragon boat team, Amateur Paddlers Philippine­s (AmPPhi) of the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation, brought home two gold, two silver and one bronze medals from the recently concluded 2nd Guam Thanksgivi­ng Dragon Boat Festival held last 18 to 19 November 2017 at Matapang Beach, Tumon, Guam. The men's crew prevailed over homegrown Haggan Guam Team in the 250m Men's Open Small Boat Category, giving the team its first gold. The merging of all female paddlers from AmPPhi and another Filipino team, Philippine Paddlers, gave the group its second gold in the 250mWomen's Seven Pairs Category exhibition game against Guam and Hong Kong. AmPPhi also bagged silver in the 500m Men's Open Small Boat Category and the 500m Mixed Small Boat Category. AmPPhi's composite team of 14 male and five female paddlers got bronze in the 250m Men's Open Standard Category.

Guam ACES (Athletes, Communitie­s, Educators, Students) organized the event, sanctioned by the Guam Dragon Boat Federation. AmPPhi, which celebrated its sixth founding anniversar­y last 22 November 2017 is coached by Coach Ramie Llano of the Philippine Army Dragon Boat Team.
