THE SM STORE NOW ACCEPTS GCASH THROUGH ‘SCAN TO PAY’ FEATURE
Globe GCash, the virtual wallet service offered by Globe Telecom for their mobile subscribers, can now be used to pay for purchases at all SM Store locations nationwide.
During the official launching of the service, Globe CEO and president Ernest Cu and SM Store president Chelo Monasterio demonstrated the scan to pay feature of GCash.
GCash app in the smartphone has a scan to pay feature that allows you to scan a QR code found on the cashier’s station that makes the payment transaction push through, with the amount deducted automatically from the GCash wallet.
The SM Store is the latest addition to the growing list of merchants which have embraced the GCash App scan to pay feature. Among the early adopters of GCash scan to pay feature include Mercato Central in Bonifacio Global City and Ayala Malls, particularly Glorietta.
According to Cu, the GCash innovation, in addition to the convenience it brings, would help bring financial inclusion among Filipinos, many of them still do not have access to banking services. The use of GCash would also provide consumers with credit scores that would help them avail of bank loan services.
Currently, 75 percent of Filipinos still don’t have bank accounts and 90 percent don’t have credit score, but the number of Filipinos who have smartphones are 33 million and the SIM cards that are active number to 70 milion.
“We launched the GCash 13 years ago as an SMS product. The experience wasn’t as good as today. But today, certain elements have made it possible to truly have a cashless payment system,” said Cu referring to growing use of smartphones and development of better networks.
With the addition of The SM Store, the use of GCash scan to pay feature continues to gain support among the top malls and merchants in the country.
