TIP INHINYERAS’ TO RECEIVE FUNDING FROM MANO AMIGA AND FACEBOOK
Select members of the Inhinyera Club of the Technological Institute of the Philippines namely, Angelica Marie Palanog, Gladys Alda, and Roxette Malicdem, recently participated in the first Think Before You Share Philippines: Digital Youth Summit held at Bonifacio Global City. The “Inhinyeras” were awarded as one of the top 5 winners to be funded by Mano Amiga Philippines and Facebook for their advocacy, women in engineering.
Twenty one groups and organizations were chosen to participate in the Digital Youth Summit. Each group presented an online campaign promoting critical thinking and responsible digital citizenship. From all of the participants, the top 5 projects chosen for funding by Mano Amiga and Facebook were Take it Topless, TechnoLeads, Prism, I am Marshall, and TIP’s Inhinyera advocacy.
“Through the summit, we learned the importance of empathy or understanding and feeling other people's emotions as we share posts and opinions through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other forms of social space,” said Alda. “The biggest part of our learning in the summit is to use so- cial media as a platform of relevant topics and advocacies to promote the common good,” she added.
Alda, Palanog, and Malicdem presented a 3-minute pitch promoting women empowerment in the field of engineering, an advocacy of the T.I.P. Inhinyera Club. The club aims to inspire young women to pursue engineering as a career path, empowering and inspiring them to effect change in a male-dominated field.
“Regardless of what field you are in, gender equality is a human right. It is a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Empowered women contribute to the health and productivity of families and communities, and they improve prospects for the next generation,” explained Malicdem. “Through the funding, we are not only executing the responsible use of online spaces but also maximizing our reach and strengthening our advocacy as an organization,” concluded Palanog.
The Digital Youth Summit is a 3-day workshop and seminar which aims to promote responsible use of online spaces. The #ThinkBeforeYouSharePH campaign, organized by Mano Amiga Academy, Inc. and supported by Facebook, aims “to embolden promising youth to lead their generation into becoming responsible and empowered digital users.”
