March was declared National Women’s Heart Health Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 1675 signed on Nov. 20, 2008 by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The proclamation advocates women empowerment toward a healthy heart and promotes awareness on the prevention of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death among Filipino women. According to the proclamation, one in every four women succumbs to heart disease.
