Marriott Hotel Manila knows all too well that the future of the oceans is at stake and has thus committed to serve only seafood of the best quality and of the sustainable kind. As the Sustainable Seafood Week kicked off last Feb. 26, Marriott Hotel walked the talk to say the least, as it took an active part in raising awareness about the best practices in sustainable fishing, and more importantly, in ensuring that the seafood products it serves were not from illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

To further ramp up its efforts towards this advocacy, Marriott Hotel has ensured that it will be offering only “sustainable” shrimps.

And why shrimps? Citing data from the WWF, Marriott Hotel revealed that shrimps are the most traded marine product today, with demand growing by 10 percent yearly.

“With our brand’s well-established corporate responsibility (‘Spirit to Preserve’), we feel the need to provide not just high quality dishes but also responsibly sourced [products] that should result in more years of great food and satisfied seafood cravings,” explained Marriott Executive Chef Meik Brammer.

Wednesdays at the hotel’s Marriott Café has never been so fresh and more sumptuous with the addition of premium quality black tiger prawns called Selva shrimps on its buffet spread.

Selva shrimps has a “Best Choice” rating for sustainability because these are naturally raised in mangrove forests as no fertilizers or chemicals were used. It is considered a healthy shrimp for its firm texture, succulent flavor and vibrant color.

Not to miss are the recommended recipes of Marriott chefs, such as grilled shrimps marinated in Indonesian sambal, a spicy and flavorful sauce. For that local touch, shrimps are made into Manila-style sisig, which Chef Meik proudly exclaims: “It will hook someone to come back for more.”

This treat is on top of the sumptuous dishes that Marriott Café has to offer, all for the same buffet price of P1,950 for lunch and P2,150 for dinner.

For a more refined indulgence, Selva shrimps are also available at the Greatroom lobby lounge, which can be a perfect munch over meetings, evening cocktails or for passing time. Menu includes boiled shrimps with sausage and potatoes on the side, baked shrimps with chimps and dips, okoy or shrimp fritters and shrimp kapao in a bun.

The seas are calling; will you answer the invitation to save it? Roll up your sleeves and dive into both sustainable and delicious seafood dishes at Marriott Manila.
