GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES ON ARCHITECTURE, DESIGN
The Architecture Network (Archinet), a nonprofit, student organization of the College of Architecture of University of Santo Tomas, is hosting its annual National Architecture Symposium on March 10 at the Samsung Hall of SM Aura at the Bonifacio Global City.
Founded in 2009, the organization espouses the concept of “learning beyond the walls of the classroom.” Thus, every year since its inception, Archinet organizes this annual event open to students, professionals and laymen interested in field of architecture and design.
Believing that the local architecture scene can compete on a global platform, Archinet gathers a roster of notable international speakers to share their experiences, understanding and knowledge of architecture and design. Past speakers include Ar. Kengo Kuma, Ar. Takharu Tezuka, Ar. Inge Goudsmit, Ar. Fumihiko Maki and Dr. Ken Yang.
This year, the National Architecture Symposium entitled “Unifying Barriers” will have three world-renowned designers namely Ar. Jason Pomeroy from Pomeroy Studio in Singapore, Ar. Carlos Arnaiz from Caza Architects based in New York, and Ar. Claude Godefroy of Henning Larsen Architects in Hong Kong, to share their experiences within and beyond the profession of architecture.
Opening the event as keynote speakers are Sofa Design Institute’s Tobias Guggenheimer and Archion Architects principal, Ar. Daniel Lichauco.
Hopping off to a more relaxed and related event, Archinet is also hosting a gathering called, “ARCHIVE, Powered by Pecha Kucha” at the UST Field, España, Manila on March 9.
Here, architects and designers will present a variety of related topics such as Architecture and Allied Fields, The Motivation to Succeed, Environmental Stewardship and muchmore.
At the “National Architecture Student Jamboree” happening from March 5 to 10, delegates from other parts of the Philippines and Asian countries are welcomed to Manila to experience the natural and built beauty of the Philippines.
Tours are organized inside and outside of Metro Manila to places such as the Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan, the historic walled city of Intramuros, Villa Escudero in Quezon and a few other spots of design and cultural significance.
Students will also engage in workshops or design competitions where they can learn various methods in solving design problems, and understand design approaches from other regions or countries.
