FOUR-PEAT! CEU CHEERLEADERS WIN ANEW AT WNCAA 2018

-

College Pasig for the top spot. Last year’s winner settled for first runner-up, while Miriam College finished second runner-up.

The grade school or midgets division saw Saint Pedro Poveda College win for the fifth straight year, overcoming first runner-up St. Paul College Pasig and second runner-up San Beda Alabang.

One of the most highly anticipated events of the WNCAA, cheerleading was the culminating event of the 48th season and part of the ceremony hosted by outgoing host school Saint Pedro Poveda College.

Appropriately, this year’s theme is “Audecia Sin Limites” or “Courage Without Limits.”

Competition, camaraderie

Since 1970, the WNCAA has served as a platform for female athletes to showcase their talent in sports. Each year, the spirit of competition and camaraderie runs high when grade school, high school and college students from 16 schools face off against teams in their respective divisions in nine different sports.

Last year’s WNCAA cheerleading competition was sponsored by Inquirer To be You and To be Ultimate, with the support of Vivo and Human. Held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, it was said to be one of the grandest editions in WNCAA cheerleading.

Interacting with people in the event is one of the things I enjoy about the WNCAA. You can really feel and hear their school spirit. The event is also a learning experience for me, as I am exposed to the technical aspects of cheerleading. For the future generation of cheerleaders, watching these awe- some young lady athletes in action is inspiring.

Can’t wait to see what’s in store in the coming season. More power to our female athletes and to the WNCAA! —CONTRIBUTED INQ

Erratum: WNCAA’s “winningest team” in cheerleading is St. Scholastica’s College’s pep squad, with eight straight wins from Seasons 32 to 39, and another win in Season 41.
