Nenoin Study brings a major step forward for nerve health
A new clinical study has brought a major step forward for nerve health.
Entitled “Management of peripheral neuropathy with a fixed dose combination of high dose B1, B6 and B12: A 12-week prospective non-interventional study in Indonesia” and published in the Asian Journal Medical Sciences in January 2018, the study has demonstrated that an effective treatment helps relieve all neuropathy symptoms regardless of the cause of peripheral neuropathy.
The result of the study was discussed by Dr. Rizaldy Pinzon, a neurologist at the Bethesda Hospital Yogyakarta in Indonesia, during a forum held recently at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila.
Dr. Pinzon's current research area is in the field of diabetic neuropathy, investigating the prevalence of neuropathy in diabetes and its relationship to glycated hemoglibin levels.
The landmark study showed that peripheral neuropathy sufferers treated with a combination of three neurotropic B vitamins have experienced improvement on all neuropathy symptoms, independently from the cause of their neuropathy.
Dr. Pinzon said that neuropathy and neuropathic pain are very common and early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to maintaining the quality of life (QoL) and avoid further progression of the disease. There are also various treatment options available for the management of neuropathy where the ideal treatment is not only for symptom control, but also to improve the nerve function.
The clinical study was conducted to investigate efficacy and safety up to 90 days of use of a fixed combination of Vitamin B1, B6 and B12. Of 411 subjects enrolled in the study, 14 subjects (3.4 percent) experienced at least one AE during the study period. Three subjects had at least one treatment-related AE and three subjects had at least one AE leading to study termination. Of the three subjects, two subjects have gastrointestinal disorders which included dyspepsia and nausea, and skin and subcutaneous disorders in one subject.
Nerves
The nervous system allows us to perceive, comprehend and respond to the world around us. It coordinates voluntary actions like walking and involuntary actions like breathing and swallowing. Nerves, the components of the nervous tissue, enable impulses of sensation and motion between the brain, spinal cord and other parts of the body.
Peripheral neuropathy, meanwhile, is a disorder affecting nerves, impairing them in their function of transmitting information and potentially affecting millions of people worldwide. It can cause various body discomforts such as tingling, increased or decreased sensitivity to vibration, hot or cold, numbness, muscle weakness and even burning pain. It can cause “typical symptoms” which appear more often and “atypical” symptoms, which are less frequent and can be overlooked or misinterpreted.
Example of symptoms of peripheral neuropathy are paresthesia, numbness, burning pain and sharp pain.
Symptoms of peripheral neuropathy can seem innocuous but have an impact on the patients’ well-being and their quality of life. Early detection and treatment are crucial, as well as effective treatment options, which relieve patients from their symptoms without having to suffer from significant side effects.
Causes, risk factors and treatment
Peripheral neuropathy are multiple and include conditions such as genetics (family member suffers from neuropathy); chronic diseases like diabetes; environmental toxins, alcoholism; nutritional deficiencies, e.g. vitamin B deficiency, and other unexplained causes.
Neurobion Forte treatment using neurotropic B vitamins combination has been proven effective for peripheral neuropathy sufferers in relieving symptoms, which was included into the study, independently from the cause of their disease. The symptoms were even more reduced over longer duration of treatment (for a three-month period) and the treatment was well tolerated.
Whether the patients were suffering from numbness, pain or parenthesia (usually painless sensation like tingling or itching often felt in the arms and feet), they experienced relief on all these symptoms. It was also observed that the longer they used the treatment, the more relief the patients felt from these symptoms.
Neurobion Tablet and Neurobion Forte Tablet are available over the counter while Neurobion Forte Solution for injection is available by prescription.
