Ural trucks show tough Russian military heritage
The recently concluded Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) held in World Trade Center, saw the brand debuts of Russian vehicle brands Gazelle and Ural.
Both brands are part of the Gaz Group’s product portfolio comprising of light to medium duty commercial vehicles, buses and heavy-duty trucks, as well as manufacturing of powertrains and parts.
Gaz Group is the leading manufacture of Russian commercial vehicles headquartered in Nizhny, Novgorod.
It has formed industrial partnerships with Volkswagen and Daimler, and operates 13 fully integrated production plants in Russia. It also has assembly facilities in Turkey and Kazakhstan, exporting to over 40 countries globally.
Locally, Gaz is represented by two local partners—Gazelle Motors Corporation, distributor of light commercial vehicles; and ConEquip Philippines Inc., distributor for Ural heavy equipment and heavy-duty trucks.
Ural prides itself with a strong Russian military heritage. ConEquip Philippines unveiled the Ural Next line, known for its high reliability of assemblies and units, and its productivity and fuel efficiency.
Equipped with a robust Euro-4 YMZ-536 engine, the Ural Next has a rated 150 hp capacity and a 5-speed gearbox produced by its Yaroslavl engine plant.
The Ural Automotive Plant is located in the city of Miass, located some 96 kilometers west of Chelyabinsk Oblast on eastern slope the Southern Ural Mountains, on the bank of the Miass River, hence the name. The original plant was established in 1941, during World War II.
Its frames are made of a special alloy steel 10mm thick to ensure structural rigidity and toughness, and is designed to have a lower center of gravity for the dump platform to increase stability when driving in severe road conditions.
Its drive axles with hub-reduction final drive ensure that its vehicle load capacity.
Despite its spartan and rugged appearance, these trucks have a fairly modern cabin, with proper ergonomics for the driver’s and passenger seat, as well as a high level of passive safety and other creature comforts.
Its cabins are available in two versions: a single-row cabin, and a cabin with a berth. A cabin with a second row of seats can also be available with some modifications.
The other model unveiled at the Mias was the Ural Next allwheel-drive shift bus that is in- tended as a personnel transport in tough off-road conditions.
The vehicle is equipped with a flat body having right and left drop sides, and a crane manipulator, making repair as well as loading and unloading operations convenient.
The van body is made of insulated sandwich panels, and has a capacity of 8 passengers equipped with special seats and belts as well as an emergency escape and vent hatch.
Ural also introduced an allwheel drive dump truck that can be a multi-purpose vehicle for mining and construction sites, with various attachments and configurations that can be placed on its chassis.
Its two-seat cabin comes with improved interior design, similar driver’s seat ergonomics, visibility and noise insulation as well as pneumatic seat suspension for better riding comfort.
