WORKING MOMS SAY IT LIKE IT IS—WITH STYLE
Here are style tips from mothers who have successfully blended style and motherhood.
Actress and events host Issa Litton recalls entering motherhood with anxiety. “I had no idea what to expect, what it would be like,” she says. “It was really a venture into the unknown.”
She says she has the same fears today, but seeing how her two daughters, Bella and Chasey, have grown up helps ease the anxiety: “My life is more interesting and has become quite the juggling act ever since I became a mama.
“Time management is key,” adds Litton. “And since my career depends on bookings, it works out on its own. The rest is pretty much mama time.”
An active woman, she likes to keep her style glamorous and classy; she sticks to tank tops, dresses, loose pants or skirts.
Entrepreneur
Jen Gerodias, the entrepreneur behind Snoe Beauty Inc., the cosmetics firm, says she learned from the best when it comes to motherhood: her own mother.
“She found a way to balance motherhood and career,” Gerodias says. “Sometimes she brought us to work, and this was one of the reasons all of her kids became entrepreneurs.”
Gerodias has three boys and a girl, so she spends less time on herself and more time on the kids.
“I put them ahead of anything else,” she says. “I let my kids explore their talents. I want to make sure they learn how they can push their limits and explore hidden talents, learn to reflect, self-reflect, and be confident as individuals.”
Gerodias says her personal style depends on her mood.
“I can be minimalist one day and over-styled the next,” she says. “I keep all my old stuff because I think fashion trends come back. I love color.”
Designer
Fashion designer Kristel Yulo says her mom provided tender loving care when she was growing up, so she tries to do the same now that she’s a mother to 2-year-old Siena.
“It’s been a major shift in priorities—your motivation for things change,” she says. “”Now I don’t just live for myself.”
To keep things in order, she keeps her schedule planned two to three months ahead.
In dressing, she prefers classic to trendy. Her personal style—“flattering to my now curvier figure, but being careful not to be too basic. I really love well-made, elegant pieces combined with bold color or a statement piece,” she adds.
She has to run after a 2-yearold, so loose pieces such as lounge pants and comfy shoes help.
These moms’ go-to collections are Cinderella, Esprit, British India, and for their kids, OshKosh.
