Recognizing the woman who loves you like no other

- TESSA PRIETO-VALDES

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms! This special day worldwide recognizes the woman who radiates pure, unconditional, selfless and strong love incomparable to any other kind. No one in your life will ever love you as your mother does.

Held on the second Sunday of May, this celebration highlights motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. Here are some of the exciting events that inspiring mothers are enjoying with their children. My good friend Irene

Ibañez and my godchild Isabela recently launched their first watercolor painting exhibit for Mother’s Day.

With a dash of a brush, Irene uses watercolor to examine the different forms of a mother’s love, and what it means to be a mother in this day and age. She shares the stage with Bea, who is marking her debut in the local art scene. Featured as well is their mentor, Roland Santos, a well-regarded watercolorist. The exhibit will run until June 3, 11 a.m.-9 p.m., at 2/F Bridgeway, Estancia, Capitol Commons, Pasig City.

Paying it forward

Another mother-daughter tandem is busy with their art gallery. Nina Malvar and her daughter Ria run Kartini Asia Gallery located at G/F Gervasia Center, 152 Amorsolo St., Legaspi Village, Makati City.

The gallery’s recent exhibit, “Color My World,” celebrated Kartini’s first anniversary. The exhibit showcased the works of the distinguished artists of Mission Artists Philippines: sculptor

Ronald Castrillo and visual

artists Waldz Villanueva, Arnaldo Mirasol, Jake Catah and Jojo Garcia. Also shown were works

of Leonard Aguinaldo, Bert Monterona, Victor Espinosa, Prudencio Lamarroza and Jun Martinez.

As part of her paying it forward, Nina started Mission Artists Philippines. The project provides a platform for both distinguished and emerging artists to inspire and promote Filipino art and to conduct training and art workshops for the needy youth and indigenous communities.

Full proceeds of the auction of selected pieces went to the orphans and needy youth in Casa Miani Home for Boys in San Jose Village, Alabang. Kartini Asia Gallery will conduct a series of art workshops for 40 boys and 20 postulants in Casa Miani this month.

Luxe comfort food

This mom puts her artistic skills into food. Entrepreneur, food enthusiast and mother Tr

ish Panlilio got her three boys involved with her new restaurant Mulberry Door in Bonifacio Global City. Trish is also busy with nawwTy’s kitchen, one of the top custom catering and a la carte food services in the metro.

From its conception in 2014, nawwTy’s kitchen has been bringing luxe comfort food at its finest. Their seasoned team of professionals has satisfied at different events, whether an intimate dinner, light brunch and cocktails, or a corporate gathering.

Familiar, flavorful, hearty, and with quality ingredients, the food is truly, sinfully delicious. Trish is very dedicated to her business. She brings the expertise and success from her other brand, The Gourmand Market.

Clients can choose from their extensive a la carte offerings, or they can enjoy a curated menu based on their preferences. Among the favorites are nawwTy’s ubiquitous crab fat paella with chicharon crumbles, the crowd-pleaser lasagne al

forno, and the perfectly executed slow-baked pepper ribs.

Whether it’s a chic aperitif bar, a selection of melt-in-yourmouth tapas, or a raclette station, nawwTy’s kitchen has the solution to your ever-evolving catering needs.

Trish and nawwTy’s kitchen have partnered with Pottery Barn, an American home furnishings retailer under Stores Specialists Inc. This is a partnership made in home heaven, as both brands advocate products that passionately infuse quality and comfort.

The partnership kicked off with an exclusive preview of the Summer 2018 collection at Pottery Barn’s outpost in Central Square, High Street Central, Bonifacio Global City.

Some of Manila’s most stylish gathered to spend an afternoon with Trish as she discussed her own home design habits, while enjoying nawwTy’s kitchen favorites, paired with handcrafted cocktails from Mulberry Door.

Pottery Barn x nawwTy’s kitchen is a celebration of the delicious, stylish, luxurious, yet comfortable—exactly what you want to go home to. Mulberry Door is at 8 Forbes Town, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. Call 09189987474 or 0906217-6497; e-mail nawwtyskitchen@gmail.com.

Lifestyle fair

After shopping at Pottery Barn, head to Dusit Thani Manila to celebrate Mother’s Day with a lifestyle fair this weekend. Headed by single and happy mom Mons Romu

lo, Katutubo Pop Up Market puts together local finds sold all day today at the hotel lobby until 8 p.m.

Joining the pop-up are Kaayo and Zarah Juan, both of which support the three generations of Bogobo Tagabawa community in Mindana; Liwayway Philippines handmade ceramics that showcases Filipino culture; Tilia embroidered and hand-loomed fabrics from Negros Occidental; Cebu’s pride Island Girl handbags; Joyce Makitalo; Alchemista; Dolldolita and Violetvine, to name a few. Eagerly helping their moth

er, Cheskie and Cara Romulo Tantoco make sure that both the merchants and customers are happy with Katutubo Fair. In supporting this event, many local merchants are in turn helping local artisans promote their crafts.

Apart from greeting my mother, Marixi Prieto, and mother-in-law, Cynthia Valdes, I would like to wish a happy Mother’s Day to first-time moms Divine Lee-Go and Eva

McGovern-Basa. Enjoy the wonders of motherhood!
