NAGA CITY— A 9-month-old boy, who survived after being thrown out of a car in a five-vehicle smashup in Libmanan town, Camarines Sur province, on Tuesday, needs breast milk, diapers and clothes after his parents died in the crash, a relative said.

Police said Naoki William Peña waswith his parents, Ronel and Susanne Maner, a Swiss national, when their Toyota Avanza figured in an accident involving two passenger buses, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a truck at Barangay Mabini.

They came from Metro Manila and were on their way home to Pili town when the accident happened at 5:30 a.m.

The boy’s father died instantly while his mother died in a hospital here on Tuesday night.

The other fatality, who was onboard the SUV, was identified as Leoncia Mangarin, 58, a public elementary school principal in Libmanan.

Police said 10 others were hurt, but four of them had been discharged from the hospital as of Thursday.

Fractured leg

Aisha Peña Namoro, Ronel’s cousin, said Naoki’s left leg was fractured and needed casting. Doctors at Mother Seton Hospital here also discovered that he was suffering from lung infection.

Namoro said Naoki needs breast milk because he refused to drink infant formula.

“We appeal to breastfeeding mothers to donate some milk to baby Naoki as it is essential for his faster recovery,” she said.

Namoro said Naoki also needed baby clothes and diapers.

Donations may be coursed through Richelle Peña Robosa at 0950-3633376 or through the pediatrics ward of Mother Seton Hospital in this city.
