EAST, NORTH SAMAR ROAD BREAKS GROUND

@joeygabietaINQ TACLOBAN CITY— Officials on Thursday broke ground for a road project that they said would make travel from Northern to Eastern Samar a breeze.

The 11.6-kilometer, P1-billion Samar Pacific Coastal Road (SPCR) project would connect five towns in Northern Samar to two towns in Eastern Samar, forming a circumferential connection between the two provinces.

The project’s completion was listed as March 2020.

The project, including three bridges, would connect the Northern Samar towns of Laoang, Palapag, Mapanas, Gamay and Lapinig with the Eastern Samar towns of Arteche and San Policarpo.

Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, in a speech during groundbreaking ceremony in Palapag town, said the SPCR was a “landmark project” for the two provinces.

Han Dong-man, South Korean ambassador to the Philippines, said SPCR was a testament to the strong relationship between the Philippines and South Korea.
