FVR leads 68th Korean War commemoration

To commemorate the 68th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War on June 25, 1950, former President Fidel V. Ramos, a Korean War veteran, led on Sunday the celebration of Filipino heroism at the Philippines-Korea Friendship Center in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. “Today we honor our valiant heroes,” Ramos said. Ramos was then 22 years old with the rank of second lieutenant in the Philippine Army when he volunteered in the Korean War. The Philippines was one of the 16 Asia-Pacific countries led by the United States that responded to the urgent call by the United Nations to deploy combat troops to South Korea after it was invaded by communist Chinese and North Korean forces. The 7,420 Filipino soldiers were collectively known as the Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea.
